Job Description
The Forensic Technician performs technical and operational tasks in support of autopsies and related forensic procedures to assist in determining cause and manner of death. This role supports the daily operations of the morgue facility and works closely with forensic pathologists, physicians, law enforcement, and other professionals to ensure accurate case processing, evidence preservation, and maintenance of a safe and sanitary environment. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities * Accept and register human remains in accordance with established policies and procedures. o Obtain and accurately record identifying information including scars, tattoos, marks, height, and weight. o Collect and secure documents, valuables, and other personal property. * Assist with forensic investigations and case documentation o Photograph remains upon admittance and take site-specific photographs during postmortem examinations. o Fingerprint bodies at appropriate times to support identification and evidence preservation. * Support autopsy procedures o Prepare remains for examination by the pathologist. o Recognize, preserve, and safeguard evidence relevant to cause and manner of death. o Assist forensic pathologists during autopsies, including opening body cavities and removing tissues, organs, and systems as directed. * Radiology support o Take and develop X-rays as needed to determine presence, number, and location of foreign objects. * Specimen collection and preservation o Collect and preserve specimens for laboratory analysis. o Prepare solutions used as fixation agents for anatomical specimens. o Ensure proper disposition of by-products and tissues that may contain harmful organisms. * Post-examination preparation o Prepare remains for transport by funeral homes or other authorities using appropriate methods. o Perform minor and major restoration for identification purposes. o Restore remains for viewing or photography when needed. * Maintain morgue operations o Ensure the facility remains sanitary, hygienic, and safe. o Order and maintain inventory of supplies to meet operational needs and case volume. * Court involvement o Testify in judicial proceedings concerning medical examiner cases as required. * Perform other related duties as assigned. ________________________________________ Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols and documentation requirements * Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism * Knowledge of evidence preservation and chain-of-custody practices * Ability to work in an environment involving exposure to human remains, bloodborne pathogens, and biohazard materials * Ability to work collaboratively with forensic pathologists, physicians, and law enforcement * Strong organization skills and ability to manage multiple cases/tasks efficiently
Shift
Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired, is necessary. One to three years experience in forensic pathology and autopsy procedures is required. Must have knowledge of gross anatomy procedures used in pathological examinations. A person working in the classification must be able to: --visually observe death scene details. --record information observed and complete related forms. --verbally communicate clearly and concisely. --lift, carry and set down, objects weighing 25-50 lbs. on a daily basis. make intricate cuts on human bodies.
Anticipated Hiring Range
