Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit's Commercial Business Units ("Spirit Commercial"). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing's three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial's core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.


Responsibilities

Position Responsibilites:

  • Performs a variety of qualitative and quantitative analysis of raw materials, packaging materials, and/or finished products from manufacturing, to ensure compliance to customer and regulatory requirements and specifications in regard to chemical, physical, and mechanical properties.
  • Assist Engineering in establishing testing requirements and providing test data.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering and science to conduct tests on metallic and non-metallic materials (e.g., metals, composites, sealants, adhesives, rubber products, plastics) to validate compliance with conformance specifications and provide consultation on related issues.
  • Applies existing techniques and procedures with recommendations and implementation for improved efficiency, or devises and develops new analytical test methods and techniques.
  • Obtain required information from prints, charts, sketches, work orders, documents, verbal and electronic information.
  • Use and control of solvents and cleaning solutions in the preparation of details, tools, and assemblies for bonding and paint per established procedures.
  • Load, unload and operate ovens and autoclaves in the curing of parts and assemblies.
  • Place vacuum and pressure bags over and inside wrapped parts and tools, and test for leaks.
  • Cut fabrics and composite materials to size using knives, shears, automated material cutters etc
  • Sand, polish molds and/or bond assembly tools to obtain smooth surfaces.
  • Apply parting agents to molds and bond assembly tools

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5-9 years of experience with raw materials testing
  • High School Diploma or GED is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Use shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments to complete work assignments.
  • Utilize lay-up tools in the fabrication of composite and metal assemblies.
  • Fiber/Void/Resin Content Testing on pre-impregnated materials
  • Sample prep of composite materials for testing

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range: $52,600 - $80,600
