Job Role and Responsibility: AMD, Inc., is hiring SMTS Firmware Engineer to Research, design, develop, and/or test operating systems-level software, compilers, and/or network distribution software for semiconductor operations, applying principles and techniques of computer science, electronic engineering, and mathematical analysis. Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug computer software for electronic device hardware. Develop software and tools in support of electronic design, infrastructure and technology platforms, including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, and/or databases. Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for enhancements and new products. Develop AMD's next-generation 3D graphics enablement and advanced feature verification for industry-leading application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). Develop new architecture diagnostic test strategy definition and test methodology studies. Develop software and tools in support of design, infrastructure and technology platforms, including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, cloud-based and Internet related tools. Determine test strategies for Cache related features (i.e., GL1, GL2C, GUS, TCP, UTC) and work with design teams to define test strategies that are software visible and testable. Develop new tests for mission-critical features in 3D graphics intellectual property (IP) and study the effectiveness of the new strategies/methodologies. Own high design risk features and apply new test methodologies to these risk features, measuring performance counter for cache-related tests. Perform emulation verification for AMD's next-generation ASICs to test new product features, function, and performance. Work with emulator teams to enable the performance counter and will verify new library/tests on the hardware emulator to prove and fine-tune test effectiveness. Determine hardware compatibility and/or influence hardware design. Work with cross-functional teams including engineers to develop computer systems-level software, working on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Drive projects or processes of significant technical importance. Exercise independent judgment to select methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Utilize knowledge of computers and electronics, including computer hardware and software, applications, and programming, as well as knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. Apply knowledge of engineering principles, best practices, and technologies to the design, development, and testing of various AMD systems and products. Multiple openings.
