Description

The Department of Earth & Climate Sciences at Tufts University is seeking a part-time Lecturer to teach "Introduction to Oceanography" (ECS-0005) in Fall 2026. This introductory course has no prerequisites and surveys the fundamentals of oceanography across physical, chemical, and biological processes. Full course materials are available for the instructor to use, though there is also flexibility to modify content and materials based on the instructor's interests. The course will enroll approximately 50-80 undergraduate students and is supported by 1-2 graders, who will be supervised by the hired lecturer. The course meets twice per week, Tuesday/Thursdays from 3:00-4:15 pm, from September 8 through December 14, 2026, plus an exam during the final exam period (Dec 16-23). The instructor will also hold one weekly session of office hours.


Qualifications

Candidates should have a Ph.D. or advanced doctoral training in oceanography or a related discipline within Earth Sciences. Prior teaching experience is preferred.
