POSITION SUMMARY The role of the nurse in Cardiac Stress testing includes professional patient care of the cardiac patient and performing procedures including exercise and pharmacological cardiac stress testing with and without nuclear imaging and echocardiography.
- Education Minimum Required:
- Be a graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. BSN encouraged.
-Licensure/Certification or credentials
- Current unencumbered Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Illinois.
- Has maintained 20 continuing education hours over a two year period as required by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation for licensure.
- BLS, ACLS required. PALS encouraged.
- Experience Level
- Must be mid-level minimum of two years' experience in a hospital based cardiac, critical care or emergency department setting.
- Skill/Competency
- Experience reading and interpreting EKG/Arrhythmia.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills.
- Familiarity with Electronic Health Record- EPIC
- Maintain precise medical documentation
- Ability to coach patients through physical exertion and calm anxious individuals during the procedure.
- Knowledge medical equipment.
- Ability to communicate, empathize and interact with patients.
- Ability to explain test procedures, assess tests, obtain informed consent, and screen for contraindications
- Preceptor for new hires or cross-training staff.
- Must collaborate closely with Cardiologists and specialized technicians, patients and other staff, requiring strong communication.
- Must be able to work independently or as a team member.

- Work Environment
A Stress Lab RN works in a fast-paced hospital setting. The environment focuses on procedural efficiency, cardiac monitoring, and direct patient education. Fosters collaboration, open communication, and employee well-being, leading to excellent patient care and job satisfaction.
Stress Lab Nurse will potentially with exposure to biohazard materials, infectious diseases and non-biohazards (ex: radiant energy, drugs, chemicals, etc)
- Physical Demands
- The ideal candidate must be able to work and complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Medium Work, exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally to move objects including the human body, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 lbs and /or up to 10 lbs constantly.
- Constantly standing, walking, reaching, patient handling, talking, hearing and seeing.
