This position will be domiciled at a FedEx Freight location in Harrison, AR or Memphis, TN. You will be required to work at a FedEx Freight Location several times per week.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Provide assistance to the Compliance & Employment Law team in carrying out corporate legal essential functions

  • ; Assure the day-to-day flow of documents and information, support in-house attorneys and outside counsel. Develop and administer control systems and procedures for corporate use in monitoring legal activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • 1. Perform advanced legal and factual research and prepare summaries and analyses, including valuation estimates of current or potential legal claims, for attorney review. 2. Review research of others prior to attorney review 3. Serve as liaison between Compliance & Employment Law team and internal departments, including Service Center Leadership, Human Resources, Safety, Security, Risk Management, Finance, Information Technology, etc., and assist attorneys with communications to external entities4. Draft legal-related correspondence at advanced level for review and approval by attorneys5. Provide timely responses and documents to requesting departments and outside agencies6. Prepare legal documents, including position statements and related documents for use in response to administrative charges and government audits and inquiries; Accept and deliver documents on behalf of the company when presence of an attorney is not required, or with an attorney when appropriate 7. Assist in planning, organizing, administering, and tracking programs and projects handled by the Compliance & Employment Law team 8. Process and review various legal documents and maintain activity log to assure prompt action by the appropriate corporate department9. Work with all departments to ensure timely handling and completion of Company's legal activities; Respond to requests for information and advice 10. Assist attorneys with drafting of communications to Leadership and others, when appropriate, and assist with coordinating official communications 11. Assist with training in the development of other Compliance & Employment Law staff, including temporary employees. 12. Assist with developing and conducting training programs regarding legal issues for mangers and company personnel 13. Work with all departments in the corporation to ensure timely handling and completion of company's legal activities14. Prepare articles pertaining to the Compliance & Employment Law team's activities for publication in company's internal communications 15. Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures16. Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Paralegal Degree or Paralegal Certificate from an accredited institution from the applicable state; or at least three years of relevant work experience in the area of compliance and/or employment law can be substituted for this requirement if the candidate has a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or area of study
  • Bachelor's or Associates degree preferred
  • Ten (10) years paralegal experience to include three (3) years of Paralegal experience at a FedEx operating company and five (5) years of demonstrated subject matter expertise in the area of compliance and/or employment law
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Legal process and systems
  • Advanced research and writing skills, strong organizational, collaboration, communication and computer skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize deadlines
  • Ability to interact with all levels of leadership across FedEx Freight enterprise
  • Experience and ability to use Microsoft Office Software, including but not limited to; Word, Excel, and Outlook

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel may be required
  • Work hours may vary due to organizational need
