POSITION SUMMARY

This position acts as the point of contact for any issues or concerns that may occur in the laboratory from the Formulation team. This position is responsible for supervising Formulation Technicians by providing day to day guidance and performance feedback.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Supervises Formulation team members by providing day to day guidance and performance feedback


    • Coordinates daily routine work for Formulation Technicians and ensures that duties are clearly defined and understood by team members.
    • Serves as the point of contact for Formulation team within the lab


  • Initiates deviation and non-conformance reports as needed with guidance from the Supervisor
  • Leads training for Formulation Technicians to ensure they are fully proficient in manufacturing processes before working independently
  • Troubleshoots automated equipment used to produce reagents, including label printers, pipettes, and automated vialing/lyophilizing equipment
  • May participate in inventory control by issuing or completing materials to work orders
  • Reviews Formulation team records to ensure accuracy prior to manufacturing products
  • Coordinates manufacturing of customer contract materials with specialized procedure and handling requirements
  • May handle BSL2 reagents to produce calibrator products.
  • Delegates execution of process improvements to routine manufacturing processes that provide for better quality and quantity of products.
  • Participates in 5S initiatives by maintaining and improving laboratory tidiness and efficiency.
  • Ensures and participates in general laboratory maintenance including maintaining laboratory cleanliness, supplies and equipment


    • Prepares, maintains and reports reagent inventories.
    • Participates in year-end physical inventory


  • Ensures that all laboratory safety precautions and use of personal protective equipment are followed by all team members.
  • Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Two years of industry experience in a manufacturing role
  • A minimum of one year experience as a Team Lead


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES



  • Ability to lead, train, guide others to understand and comprehend subjects/duties
  • Ability to hold team accountable for deadlines and quality compliance
  • A keen aptitude for learning, adhering, and teaching standard laboratory techniques and safety precautions
  • Ability to follow laboratory safety instructions; ability to use protective equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of scientific fundamentals and analytical background
  • Thorough knowledge of with pipetting required
  • Ability to independently execute mechanical equipment troubleshooting



  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines with an appropriate sense of urgencyExcellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills





    • Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of laboratory data


  • Knowledge of cGMP and/or ISO certification required
  • Knowledge of MRP, and ERP highly preferred


    • Knowledge of JDE preferred


  • Ability to learn additional software applications/tools, as required
  • Ability to utilize equipment necessary to perform the essential duties of the job
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding manufacturing environment with changing priorities


  • Utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and lifting up to 25 lbs.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS



  • Up to 50% of the day may be spent at a lab bench

COMPENSATION SUMMARY:

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $59,100 to $87,900. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
