Essential Job Duties
The Randall B. Terry Companion Animal Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Patient Care Technician to join our Intermediate Care ( IMC) department. This role is designed for a technician who thrives in a high-acuity environment and enjoys the balance of advanced clinical practice and clinical mentorship.
As the primary technical point of contact for the IMC, you will manage complex hospitalizations, execute advanced treatment plans, and facilitate communication between specialty services, students, and clients.

Core Responsibilities



  • Advanced Clinical Intervention: Execute high-level technical procedures including long-term central venous access, TPN and chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, and complex wound management.

  • Case Coordination: Serve as the central liaison for the unit; admitting patients, synthesizing diagnostic updates, and ensuring the projected plan of care is communicated effectively to clinicians and students.

  • Clinical Mentorship: Provide direct supervision and coaching to 4th-year veterinary students, interns, and residents, evaluating their technical proficiency and patient care standards.

  • Patient Advocacy: Manage comprehensive post-operative monitoring and specialized drug administration, applying a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.

  • Departmental Operations: Maintain rigorous infectious disease protocols, manage internal billing for procedures, and ensure the unit is stocked and transition-ready.



Technical Qualifications



  • Clinical Experience: Previous experience in a feline/canine veterinary setting is required.

  • Communication: Proven ability to maintain professional composure and clear communication during emotionally charged or high-pressure situations.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong command of medical software, diagnostic equipment, and specialized pharmacology.

  • Physical Standards: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations.

Qualifications




Minimum Experience/Education
Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Some positions may require additional Training, Certifications, or Licensure.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed/Registered/Certified by any state
  • Graduation from an AVMA fully accredited two- or four-year Veterinary Technician program.
  • Experience as a veterinary technician/assistant, preferably at a teaching hospital.
