The Opportunity:

The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Sciences (COS) is seeking qualified candidates for a Director, Marketing Communications II position. The core responsibilities of this role center on both strategic development and hands-on leadership. The Director II is responsible for managing communications, marketing, and public relations strategies and efforts within the College of Sciences, while also contributing directly to the execution of key initiatives.

We are seeking a strategic, thoughtful leader who is energized by the opportunity to elevate the visibility and impact of the College of Sciences. The ideal candidate brings sound judgment, initiative, and a solutions-oriented mindset, and excels at navigating complex environments, building strong relationships, and aligning communications with broader organizational goals. The successful candidate thrives in a dynamic environment and can effectively balance strategic priorities with execution while contributing across a wide range of communications and marketing efforts.

Responsibilities:


  • Lead the creation and implementation of marketing and communications in the College of Sciences.

  • Work with the leaders and faculty in the academic units in the college to expand the impact of the college's activities through communications, outreach, and events.

  • Work with the college's advancement team in the organization and production of events to advance the college's messaging and impact.

  • Ensure brand identity consistency within the UCF brand.

  • Strategic and results-driven approach to communication with faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and external stakeholders.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive communications and marketing plan that supports the college's strategic goals and reaches a diverse constituent base across all media including publications, video, web, digital, and social media.

  • Collaborate with other leadership members in the Dean's office to prioritize strategic goals for communication.

  • Develop, evaluate, and disseminate key messages for print and digital materials ensuring that messages and materials are linked to a common and agreed-upon set of core goals.

  • Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with key partners throughout UCF's marketing department(s).

  • Develop and maintain a system to measure the effectiveness of marketing and communications-related initiatives.

  • Serve as a project manager for the marketing and communications team.

  • Mentor and lead staff, providing strategic leadership and vision in directing the activities of the marketing and communications team, ensuring a culture and practice of shared resources in creative services, digital strategy, publications development, and dissemination.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 9+ years of relevant experience, including 4+ years of leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated experience leading strategic marketing communications for a complex organization, preferably within a higher education, science-focused organization, nonprofit, or public-sector environment.

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams (e.g., writers, web, events, student staff), including mentoring, setting priorities, and driving results.

  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, including the ability to produce clear, accurate, and polished content for a variety of audiences and purposes.

  • Experience transforming complex scientific, technical, or academic concepts into engaging, accessible content for broad audiences.

  • Familiarity with brand management within a large organization, ensuring consistent messaging and visual identity.

  • Experience supporting events, outreach, or engagement initiatives that elevate organizational visibility and impact.

  • Proven experience collaborating with leadership and cross-functional teams to shape messaging and priorities.


The most successful candidates may possess the following qualities:


  • Flexible and collaborative, with the ability to lead a variety of initiatives while maintaining a strategic approach.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage competing priorities, deadlines, and stakeholder needs in a fast-paced environment.
