Position Purpose

Sr Dir, Business Development- Large Capital Projects is responsible for developing and executing enterprise-wide sales strategies that drive early project influence, long-term revenue growth, and differentiated market positioning across large, complex capital projects.

This leader works across all lines of business at Core & Main to maximize project value and revenue by aligning diversified products, services, and capabilities into a single, coordinated enterprise-wide project strategy. By integrating large capital project pursuit, product strategy, and strategic supplier alliances, the role embeds solutions early in the project lifecycle, driving measurable value for all stakeholders- customers, suppliers, internal teams, and shareholders. Operating nationally, this leader partners with executive leadership, sales, operations, and suppliers to deliver a consistent, enterprise approach to market.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Lead a national large capital projects strategy focused on total addressable market (TAM), driving identification, pursuit, and successful delivery of large, complex projects from early stage through completion.
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with General Contractors, Developers, Architects, Engineers, and Owners to secure early project visibility and influence.
  • Establish early engagement in the design phase through market intelligence, customer relationships, and proactive opportunity identification.
  • Drive disciplined project pursuit strategies by aligning sales, estimating, supply chain, logistics, and execution teams.
  • Influence specifications, sourcing strategies, and solution design ahead of formal bid cycles to position for success.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration across sales, operations, supply chain, and product teams to execute growth initiatives and deliver business objectives.
  • Oversee strategic supplier partnerships and diversity programs to expand capacity, capability, and opportunity.
  • Define and track key performance metrics, manage project pipeline and funnel performance, and deliver data-driven insights and updates to executive leadership.
  • Direct overall business strategy and execution for growth initiatives, including sales, margin, and profitability targets.
  • Identify and pursue new growth opportunities, including ownership of resource planning, operating and capital investment decisions, and, where applicable, P&L performance.
  • Communicate strategic priorities across the organization and drive alignment to balance enterprise needs with growth initiatives.
  • Provide regular executive-level updates on performance, including key results, risks, and corrective actions.
Required Qualifications
  • Senior-level leadership experience in strategic sales or enterprise business development.
  • Proven success leading national or enterprise initiatives tied to large capital projects.
  • Deep understanding of construction, infrastructure, or industrial project lifecycles.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence early-stage decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through cross-functional complexity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Requires BS/BA in a related discipline.

  • Requires significant, diverse business experience, leading projects and teams in direct-reporting and matrix situations.

  • Experience reporting to and communicating with executive management.
