The Role

At QuidelOrtho, we're advancing the power of diagnostics for a healthier future for all. Join our mission as our next Buyer II. This position is responsible for sourcing and purchasing of direct materials and some minor indirect materials and services to support organizational needs.

This position will be onsite in Carlsbad, CA.

The Responsibilities
  • Prepare and manage purchase orders for direct and indirect materials, ensuring accuracy, approvals, and timely placement

  • Review requisitions, obtain quotes, evaluate bids, and award business, in alignment with company policies

  • Procure materials based on MRP, Min/Max levels, and demand signals to maintain optimal inventory levels

  • Monitor supplier delivery performance, manage subcontractors, expedite critical orders, and escalate issues impacting production

  • Source materials and services to support internal needs while building and maintaining effective supplier relationships

  • Collaborate with Planning, Production, Quality, and Engineering to ensure material availability, specifications, and documentation meet requirements

  • Support supplier performance tracking, basic negotiations, and continuous improvement initiatives using purchasing data and KPIs

  • Ensure compliance with GMP, ISO, FDA, and company policies while supporting quality system and departmental objectives

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned

The Individual

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • 3 to 5 years' experience in a purchasing environment or related field required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Basic e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet knowledge

  • This position is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship.

Preferred:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Certifications: APICS CPIM, CFPIM, or CIRM; or NAPM CPM

  • Experience with MRP system

  • Problem-solving skills

The Work Environment

The work environmental characteristics are representative of both an office and manufacturing environment and may include handling potentially hazardous chemicals. Some time spent in production areas and warehouses. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines. Occasional travel required. Travel includes airplane, automobile travel and overnight hotel.

The Physical Demands

Position requires ability to lift up to 30 lbs. on a regular basis. Typically, 40% of time in meetings; 60% of time at the desk on computer/doing paperwork/ on phone, doing analytical work. Walking, standing, and sitting for long periods of time are routine to accomplish tasks in this role. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Position may be required to use Personal Protective Equipment as posted.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $67,303.53 - $87,494.59 and is bonus eligible. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time), and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
