Description

The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking a strategic, analytical, and forward-thinking National Bridge & Structures Market Leader to join our Transportation Lifeline Sector team. Ulteig is a recognized leader in transportation services nationwide, delivering excellence across bridge and structural design and inspection, construction management and administration, alternative delivery, asset management, and a growing portfolio of technology-enabled advisory services.

This role is critical to advancing Ulteig's national bridge and structures strategy-strengthening our market position, expanding key client relationships, and driving sustained, profitable growth across priority public-sector clients nationwide. Our focus on high-value client engagement, technical excellence, and trusted partnerships differentiates us in the marketplace and positions us for continued expansion across complex bridge and structures programs.

This position may be located anywhere within the United States and will report directly to the Transportation Market Director.

How Success Is Defined

  • Reputation: Owning, nurturing, and advancing Ulteig's national reputation in bridge and structures engineering, inspection, and delivery-internally, with clients, among partners and subconsultants, and across the transportation industry.
  • Service: Championing and reinforcing an exceptional, consistent standard of service for bridge and structures clients nationwide.
  • Growth & Traction: Developing and closing high-value pursuits that align with Ulteig's bridge and structures capabilities, strategic priorities, and long-term positioning.
  • Expansion & Influence: Identifying, shaping, and executing a best-in-class national growth strategy that expands Ulteig's reach, depth, and influence across priority bridge and structures markets and delivery models.

This role is envisioned as both a flywheel enabler for bridge and structures-focused on enhancing and deepening client relationships and traction in core geographies-and a growth accelerator focused on expanding Ulteig's reach in bridge and structures in other high-value geographies, such as the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.

What You'll Do

  • Own and advance the national bridge and structures market, in service of Ulteig's overall Transportation strategy and long-term growth objectives.
  • Develop, share, and leverage a deep command of national bridge and structures market dynamics, including client needs, funding trends, policy and regulation, delivery models, competitive landscape, and emerging technical and technological differentiators.
  • Provide strategic leadership on high-profile bridge and structures pursuits and programs nationwide, including acting as Project Manager or Principal-in-Charge as appropriate, with an approximate 10% annual billability.
  • Communicate with clarity and influence across all mediums, from executive-level client discussions and industry forums to in-depth proposals and internal communications.
  • Actively listen to understand client objectives and the needs of technical teams; build consensus, align priorities, and lead through influence rather than authority.
  • Provide oversight, mentorship, and strategic support to Client Team Leads (CTLs), project managers, and technical leaders with bridge and structures client relationships and business development responsibilities.
  • Collaborate closely with CTLs and technical teams to build, strengthen, and protect Ulteig's national bridge and structures brand, ensuring consistency in client experience and market messaging.
  • Maintain a strong personal and professional industry presence, including visible leadership on national boards, committees, technical panels, industry events, and speaking engagements related to bridges and structures.
  • Build and sustain diverse, trusted, and high-value relationships internally (technical staff, leadership, shared services) and externally (clients, partners, subconsultants, and industry influencers).
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Ulteig's current and emerging capabilities and proactively align those capabilities with market needs and opportunities.
  • Identify short-, mid-, and long-term opportunities across bridge and structures services, delivery models, and geographies.
  • Lead or support pursuit capture activities, close opportunities, and help ensure excellence in delivery for the work those opportunities create.
  • Execute all related business leadership responsibilities-ranging from CRM data integrity and business development budgeting to internal collaboration and culture-building-in alignment with Ulteig's expectations of a strategic national leader.

What We Expect from You

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Engineering, with a PE a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in business development and/or consulting in the bridge and structures engineering industry required, ideally at a consulting/professional services firm.
  • Experience and expertise in bridge and structures inspection and/or design.
  • Deep understanding of the national bridge and structures market preferred, including market dynamics, policy, competitive landscape, and more. Direct existing relationships with existing and potential bridge and structures clientele are strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and building a pipeline of opportunities and closing high-value business.
  • Customer Relationship Management software experience with D365 CRM, Salesforce, and Power BI is desired.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and additional software knowledge depending on specialty.
  • Independent judgment and initiative are required.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 40% of the time within the U.S.
  • Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.
