Carley Foundry is seeking a Process Engineering Summer Intern to support engineering projects focused on quality, process improvement, scrap reduction, and manufacturing effectiveness. This internship is designed for an engineering student who wants hands-on experience in a real manufacturing environment while learning from experienced process engineering professionals.
The intern will work directly with the Process Engineering Manager and Process Engineering team on assigned projects. At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will prepare and deliver a presentation to Carley Foundry Operations leadership summarizing their work, findings, and results.The anticipated length of the internship will be 13 weeks. The length may be extended depending on the performance and availability of the candidate.

What You'll Do

As a Process Engineering Intern, you will support projects that help improve quality, service, and cost performance across the foundry. Key responsibilities include:
  • Use data-driven analysis to identify opportunities to reduce scrap and rework.
  • Work cross-functionally with production, quality, engineering, and operations teams to plan, implement, and verify corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop, revise, and improve Work Instructions to support process consistency and compliance with standards.
  • Use objective evidence and measurable results to show progress toward company goals and objectives.
  • Support quality and continuous improvement activities throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Follow all plant safety and environmental standards.
  • Participate in safety observations, training, and improvement activities.
  • Learn defect prevention and process control methods under the mentorship of a Process Engineer.
  • Build strong working relationships across departments.
  • Maintain confidentiality related to proprietary processes, future planning, and capital projects.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • Student entering Junior or Senior year of a Bachelor's degree program in Engineering.

Preferred Engineering Programs
  • Materials Science Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Related engineering disciplines may also be considered.

Work Environment
This role includes work in both office and manufacturing environments. The intern may be exposed to heat, dust, and noise typical of foundry operations. Candidates should be comfortable working in a hands-on industrial setting and managing multiple tasks and deadlines with supervision.
