Role & Responsibilities
- Follow up on preventative maintenance, work orders, and emergency repairs to ensure they are being done correctly.
- Inspect running equipment and plan for repairs during scheduled downtime.
- Work with mechanics individually to help them where they have room for improvement.
- Assist mechanics in their training programs to facilitate their growth and promotions.
- Work closely with production supervisors to make sure their needs are being met.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on automated equipment.
- Answer calls for maintenance quickly and fully prepared to make any repairs needed.
- Should be visible and readily available on the plant floor as much as possible.
- Maintain a safe working environment both in the maintenance shop and on the plant floor.
- Must be food safety minded with attention to details being critical when working on equipment or anywhere near the product.
- Provide and maintain your own hand tools, including, but not limited to wrench sets, miscellaneous pliers, socket sets, hammers, punches, etc.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Scheduling of mechanics and payroll submissions.
- Participation in operations shift meetings as well as safety and food safety meetings and inspections.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills with the ability to problem solve and decision making.
- Effective and diligent communication is required.
- Must be able to generate clear and effective written correspondence.
- Ability to analyze details and deadlines with appropriate information.
- Must be able to read and comprehend production materials along with the ability to count and perform basic math.
- Must be skilled in operating and examining production equipment for faults.
- Must have general knowledge of how machinery works.
- Have the ability to coordinate the different stages of manufacturing to ensure seamless operations.
- Competent computer skills including MS Office Suite is a plus.
Requirements & Physical Demands
- Prior experience in plant maintenance or general commercial mechanic experience.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and must also adapt to frequent changes that occur on the production line
- Must possess/maintain a valid license to operate applicable equipment.
- Able to read, comprehend and practice necessary safety procedures, signs, etc.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds, stack, and/or carry pans, ingredient containers, etc.
- Must be able to work around and with various food machinery equipment
- Must be able to measure ingredients and follow written instructions
- Have the ability to stand and/or stoop for the full shift
- Ability to work in a loud, hot work environment
- Physically capable of moving to all areas of a plant; capable of reaching, bending, stooping, climbing, pushing and pulling as required in a manufacturing operation.
- Willing to work irregular and/or rotating shifts, including split days off (non-consecutive days off)
- Working holidays and weekends is frequently required
