Truss Design Manager JOB I.D.#75611 Description: Our client is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Truss Design Manager to join their engineering team. The Truss Designer will be responsible for creating accurate and efficient truss designs for a variety of residential, commercial, and agricultural projects. This role requires a strong understanding of structural principles, building codes, and material properties, as well as proficiency in specialized truss design software. Responsibilities:
- Design roof and floor trusses using specialized truss design software (e.g., MiTek, Alpine, ITW Building Components).
- Interpret architectural blueprints, structural drawings, and project specifications to determine truss requirements.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant building codes (e.g., IBC, IRC), industry standards (e.g., WTCA), and company policies.
- Optimize truss designs for material efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and ease of fabrication and installation.
- Generate accurate cut lists, layout drawings, and other production-related documentation for the manufacturing team.
- Collaborate closely with sales, engineering, production, and project management teams to ensure design integrity and project success.
- Communicate effectively with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to clarify design requirements and address any issues.
- Perform calculations to verify design integrity and load-bearing capacity.
- Review and revise designs based on feedback from engineers, fabricators, or clients.
- Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, design software advancements, and building code changes.
- Troubleshoot design-related issues during fabrication and installation.
- Maintain accurate records of all designs and project documentation.
- Supervise in-house design team (3) and oversee offsite designers' (3) work as well.
Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience (typically 2+ years) as a truss designer or similar role in the building materials or construction industry.
- Proficiency in truss design software (e.g., MiTek Sapphire, Alpine View, ITW Building Components).
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics, engineering principles, and load paths.
- In-depth knowledge of residential and commercial building codes, particularly as they relate to structural framing and trusses.
- Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and structural drawings.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software is a plus.
- Experience with wood product specifications is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Primarily sedentary work, utilizing a computer for extended periods.
- Occasional need to visit job sites or manufacturing facilities using company vehicles, which may involve walking, standing, and navigating various terrains.
