Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Division of Student Affairs fosters student development. The division aids, directs and informs students about services and programs that will expand students' educational experiences and prepare them for diverse lives in local and global communities. The Division of Student Affairs is responsible for many of the outside the classroom/off campus aspects of student life at ECSU, including student engagement and leadership; career services; student disability services, residential life; student engagement; community standards; special programs and services; student health & counseling services and career services.
Description of Work
The Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness provides leadership for a comprehensive university-wide recreational and wellness program for students, faculty and staff to expand their knowledge of and participation in recreational activities, which foster healthy lifestyles, sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership. The position serves as an advocate for health and fitness within higher education and its support of student development and continual education. Direction for a campus-wide recreation and wellness program include the following areas: fitness programs, intramurals, sports clubs, aquatics, special events, open/informal recreation, and marketing. The Director works with different constituents of the University and external community to make campus recreation and wellness an integral part of the University. The Director will assist in oversight, planning, and coordination of activities, events, and program initiatives in facilities such as, but not limited to, Williams Hall Gymnasium, Outdoor Basketball Courts, Wellness Center, Aquatics/Swimming Pool, Intramural Fields, Vaughan Center, Bowling and Commuter Center, and Ridley Student Center. The Director collaborates with other campus and community groups to provide diverse recreational and wellness programs and services; and participates in long-range planning that contributes to student development through services that supplement the academic programs of the University.

Possess the ability to effectively organize information, events and resources.

Possess experience managing a collegiate fitness and/or wellness program.

Possess experience presenting fitness and wellness education and information to students.

Possess experience teaching, training and assessing group exercise classes/instructors and/or personal trainers/health educators.

Possess experience performing fitness/wellness assessments.

Possess effective public relations, written and verbal communication skills.
Possess the ability to evaluate the achievement of departmental goals and objectives through formal assessment and professional reports.
Possess the experience, knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Possess a knowledge of sports rules, equipment used, and sports officiating experience.

Possess a knowledge of student development theories.

Possess program-planning skills and ability to work with little direct supervision and perform multiple tasks.

Possess the ability to plan and organize programs and activities.

Possess the skill to negotiate contracts, supervise students and employees.

Possess the ability to affirmatively model effective leadership, good moral character and ethics.

Skilled with computer usage competencies and knowledge of technological trends for advancing Student Affairs operations.
Minimum Training and Experience

Possess a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in exercise science, sport management, health education, health promotion or related field with at least one year of experience or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with Automated External Defibrillation (AED); First Aid certification and Life Guard certification; Collegiate Recreational Sports Professional (RCRSP), Certified Recreational Sports Specialist (CRSS) or Certified Park and Recreational Professional (CPRP).
