Position Summary The Salvation Army Rochester Corps is "Doing the Most Good" by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families in need. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, services include short and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; and connections to community partners. The Maintenance Custodian ensures a clean, safe, and welcoming facility through custodial work, basic maintenance, and event support. Responsibilities also include minor repairs, grounds upkeep and securing the building as a key holder. Wage: $18.12 - $19 per hour 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 3pm 20 NE First Ave, Rochester, MN 55906 Essential Functions (Approximate Time Allocation):
- Custodial Duties (55%): Ensure assigned areas-including the Social Services building, Chapel, offices, common areas, and restrooms-are maintained in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition through routine custodial tasks.
- Preventative Maintenance (15%): Support preventative maintenance efforts by completing assigned work orders and performing tasks within the scope of training and established safety guidelines.
- Grounds and General Maintenance (10%): Maintain exterior grounds by removing debris and performing light landscaping tasks. May assist with seasonal needs such as snow removal, lawn mowing, or basic vehicle upkeep.
- Event Support (10%): Provide logistical support for special and seasonal events, including room setup, supply transport, and related tasks.
- Minor Repairs and Projects (10%): Assist with small-scale repairs and facility improvement projects across assigned buildings and properties.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one year of custodial and/or general maintenance experience required; two years preferred.
- Must pass background checks, possess a valid driver's license, and have a clear MVR.
Competencies
- Knowledge of safe use and handling of cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment.
- Basic understanding of preventative maintenance and ability to perform light repairs.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, sweeping, mopping, climbing ladders, and snow removal.
- Dependable and self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic computer skills (e.g., using email or completing simple work orders) a plus.
Working Conditions
- Frequently requires standing, bending, crouching, reaching, and walking throughout the shift.
- Must be able to lift to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Work may include indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to various weather conditions.
- Clear and respectful communication with team members, volunteers, and guests is essential.

- Drive an agency vehicle locally to support the mission of The Salvation Army.
