Job Description

We have an opening for an Environmental Engineer Academic Graduate Appointee to support CERCLA groundwater and soil vapor cleanup projects at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory by performing basic technical assignments and providing intermediate-level engineering support to engineers and hydrogeologists. This position is in the Environmental Restoration Department (ERD) and will require work at Site 200 in Livermore, California, and Site 300 in Tracy, California.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will

  • Perform technical assignments of a basic degree of complexity in support of the ongoing CERCLA groundwater and soil vapor cleanup projects at the LLNL Livermore Site and Site 300.
  • Provide intermediate level engineering and/or technical support to engineers and hydrogeologists in the development, design and testing of cost-effective engineering solutions for groundwater and soil vapor remediation systems.
  • Monitor performance of operating systems and perform data analysis to identify issues, trends, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Conduct research in an agreed upon area aligned with ERD's priorities.
  • Gather and analyze data and information on available environmental remediation technologies (e.g., air sparging, soil vapor extraction, ground water pump-and-treat, etc.).
  • Perform all assignments in accordance with Environmental, Safety, & Health (ES&H), security, and business practice requirements and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrated academic and/or professional achievement in environmental engineering.
  • Knowledge of water treatment systems, groundwater, soil vapor, and environmental chemistry.
  • Experience applying basic engineering principles to solve technical problems.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills, including presenting information clearly and professionally.
  • Experience working with standard office software, strong data analysis, and computational skills, And an understanding of databases.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master's degree in environmental engineering, or related field.

Pay Range

$6,714.75 - $8,255.10 Monthly

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Site 300

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

Pre-Employment Drug Test
