This position is responsible for strategic leadership and operational oversight for the school's communications, marketing, and engagement efforts. This role serves as a player-coach, leading staff responsible for communications and events while directly executing high-level communications, marketing strategy, and multi-channel initiatives. Duties and Responsibilities: * Communications, Marketing Strategy & Campaign Execution o Provide strategic leadership for the school's integrated communications and marketing efforts, aligning initiatives with school, college, and university priorities. o Develop and execute annual and long-range communications and marketing plans, including goal setting, audience targeting, and measurable outcomes. o Lead the ideation, planning, and execution of multi-channel campaigns (web, email, social, and digital platforms), ensuring alignment across audiences and initiatives. o Oversee and actively manage the school's digital channels, including website, email communications, and social media, with responsibility for content strategy, performance optimization, and growth. o Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop regular reports and dashboards to assess effectiveness, inform decision-making, and demonstrate impact. o Utilize data analytics and audience insights to refine messaging, improve engagement, and guide strategic direction. o Monitor market trends and higher education communications/marketing practices, translating insights into actionable strategies for the school. o Serve as a senior writer, editor, and content strategist for complex or high-visibility communications, while reviewing and approving content developed by staff. o Ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with institutional messaging and brand standards across all platforms. o Serve as primary liaison to the college marketing and communications team and coordinate with campus partners and external collaborators. * Leadership, Project Management & Operational Oversight o Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance management for communications and events staff, including onboarding, training, workload management, and evaluations. o Operate within and manage project management systems and workflows to ensure accountability for timelines, deliverables, and priorities across multiple concurrent initiatives. o Oversee planning and execution of school-hosted events through staff, ensuring alignment with communications and engagement strategies. o Review and approve event-related communications, materials, and attendee experience to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with school goals. o Coordinate and prioritize team activities to support strategic initiatives while maintaining day-to day operational effectiveness. o Serve as a resource and escalation point for team and stakeholder needs. * School Communications Operations & Channel Ownership o Oversee and manage day-to-day communications operations, including:
o Ensure all channels are actively maintained, strategically aligned, and continuously improved. * Other o Assume additional responsibilities to further the mission and strategic goals of the school. o Participate in occasional evening/weekend events and limited travel as needed. Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field. * Three (3) years (36 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area. * Demonstrated experience leading projects, teams, or initiatives. * Demonstrated experience managing communications or marketing channels (web, email, social) Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience. here) Preferred Qualifications: * Experience using data or analytics to inform strategy. * Experience developing and executing integrated marketing and communications strategies. * Experience managing multi-channel campaigns and performance reporting. * Familiarity with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, email platforms, social media insights). * Experience working in higher education or similarly complex organizations. * Experience supervising staff or leading cross-functional teams. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills * Ability to balance high-level strategy with hands-on execution * Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills * Ability to communicate with others effectively * Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment * Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and impact. * Ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable strategies Appointment Information This is a full-time Civil Service Marketing Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $67,000 - $72,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus as needed per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
