What to Expect
Tesla is seeking an Embedded Linux Platform Integration Engineer to join our Wireless Systems Software team. In this role, you will own the integration of cellular and Wi-Fi software into Tesla's Linux-based Telematics Control Unit (TCU) platform across vehicles and robotics. The engineer will be responsible for evaluating vendor releases for wireless platforms, integrating them into Tesla's platform, and deploying them to the engineering and production fleets. The engineer will fully own the Yocto build and release pipelines. This position sits at the intersection of wireless silicon, embedded Linux, and the fleet, and requires deep technical ownership and strong debugging skills.
What You'll Do
- Integrate wireless silicon vendor software releases (modem firmware, Wi-Fi/BT firmware, kernel drivers, userspace stacks) into Tesla's Yocto-based TCU OS and drive them through validation and release
- Bring up and debug cellular and Wi-Fi functionality end-to-end - kernel drivers, firmware, host interfaces (Ethernet/PCIe/USB), and userspace connection management
- Triage and root-cause integration regressions and fleet connectivity issues using logs, modem/Wi-Fi traces, and kernel debugging tools
- Own the Yocto-based build and release infrastructure for connectivity software across platforms, including debug and release builds, build-time optimization, and release reliability
- Own release signing, secure boot, and compliance/security requirements for wireless components
- Develop and deploy AI-agentized workflows and Git tooling to automate integration, build, and release
- Collaborate closely with silicon vendors and with wireless software, QA, hardware, and factory teams on integration, validation, and fleet-wide rollout
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of embedded Linux experience on production devices
- Must have: hands-on Yocto experience, including recipe/layer development, bbappends, sstate cache management, and build optimization
- Hands-on experience integrating or bringing up cellular modems (LTE/5G) and/or Wi-Fi chipsets on embedded Linux (e.g., AT interfaces, NetworkManager, ConnMan, wpa_supplicant/hostapd, nl80211/cfg80211)
- Working knowledge of the Linux kernel - drivers, device tree, kernel configuration, and debugging (dmesg, ftrace, etc.)
- Strong scripting experience in Python and Bash, and experience with CI/CD (Jenkins/Groovy or similar)
- Proven ability to debug across the firmware, kernel, and userspace boundary
- Experience with wireless SoC vendor SDKs/BSPs, carrier certification, or automotive telematics is a plus
- Experience with code signing, secure boot, SELinux, and Docker/Kubernetes build environments is a plus
