Job Summary:
Join a collaborative, creative, and forward-thinking team in supporting and counseling the next generation of attorneys, and use your J.D. while leaning into skills that were underutilized in legal practice!
We are looking for candidates with diverse viewpoints and experiences to help us:
- Provide one-on-one counseling for students of all backgrounds with empathy and knowledge of the legal market;
- Develop and present topical programs on the legal job search, professional development, and the legal market;
- Think strategically regarding communication with all of our partners - students, legal employers, other staff and faculty;
- To engage with legal employers in new and on-going collaborations;
- To support job fairs and on-campus interviewing in an increasingly tech-focused world;
- To create and foster an inclusive, welcoming environment for all constituents who engage with our office, and
- To design and update resources ranging from traditional resume guides to text messages and blog posts
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide empathetic and supportive career advising to JD students on legal and alternative employment searches, career development, and navigating the legal world.
- Plan and implement innovative and engaging programming, including panels, workshops, mock interviews, and networking events, both in-person and virtual. Create and maintain close relationships with alumni who participate in these programs. Assist with the on-campus interview program and other large Career Strategy Center events.
- Create relationships with employers to expand the type and number of career opportunities for Northwestern Law students. Engage with employers in person, via video meetings and by phone.
- Provide input into and perspective on decisions impacting office operations.
- Assist with the collection of summer and permanent employment data.
- Maintain knowledge of current events in the legal community and the larger economy with regard to their impact on hiring trends, market differentiation, and practice area growth or contraction.
- Play an active role in legal and legally-related trade associations and organizations
- Create and update resources for job application documents, job search strategies, interviewing skills, networking and other related topics. Assist with maintenance of Career Services communications including texting, social media, blogs and websites.

Minimum Qualifications:
JD, MBA, or Master's in Higher Education Administration or Student Counseling.
Minimum of 2 years work experience in the legal profession.

Preferred Qualifications:
- One or more years of experience in law school career services, law firm recruitment or legal professional development.
- Prior full-time work experience as an attorney in a legal setting, such as a law firm, corporation, federal government agency, or non-profit
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
- Strong knowledge of Excel.
- Experience with Symplicity database
- Knowledge of social media such as LinkedIn.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $63,079 - $82,807.44 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
