Tax Compliance Senior Manager LOCATION: Denver, CO (Hybrid - must live local) Annual Compensation: $165,000.00 - $190,000.00 (DOE) The Tax Compliance Senior Manager is responsible for overseeing the tax aspects of income tax compliance, tax planning, tax compliance aspects of mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, managing the income tax compliance team, and ensuring compliance with federal, state and local, and international tax laws and regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise staff in the preparation of income tax returns and tax accounting compliance processes by reviewing returns and related work for accuracy and compliance with federal, state and local, and international tax regulations.
- Assist in the review of the federal consolidated tax return and supporting statements and disclosures.
- Manage the federal e-file return process, including assisting staff with e-file instructions and error resolution.
- Assist in management and review of fixed asset processes for provision and returns, including analysis of methods and lives for depreciation.
- Assist in developing workpapers supporting income tax returns filed by GMR.
- Assist in evaluating, streamlining, and documenting tax processes to optimize efficiency and develop process improvements.
- Develop and maintain tax systems documentation and training materials.
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including tax authorities and auditors.
- Manage the estimated tax process and review estimated tax calculations and payments.
- Assist with federal and state income tax research and managing implementation of tax planning initiatives. Advise management of new tax developments, legislative changes, risks, and opportunities.
- Assist in the review and preparation of foreign tax reporting in the U.S federal return, including forms 5471 and 1118, reporting for FDDEI (fka FDII) and NTCI (fka GILTI), and Subpart F and Section 78 gross-up.
- Assist in managing the federal and state R&D tax credit calculations.
- Assist with and manage assigned processes for the annual ASC 740 provision.
- Assist in managing and responding to federal, state and local tax notices and audits.
- Assist with mergers and acquisitions tax due diligence, analysis, planning and integration.
- Keep current on federal, state and local law changes and analyze the impact to GMR.
- Assist with tax planning and forecasting.
- Assist in supervising staff to ensure compliance with income tax SOX 404 processes and key controls.
- Mentor employees to facilitate individual and team development, educate and guide conceptual learning, conduct performance evaluations and provide counsel, as needed.
- Enhance professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars and reviewing professional publications.
Qualifications: Education & Industry Experience
- BS/BAin Accounting.
- Master's in taxation desirable but not required.
- CPA license preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience in a tax department preferred (public accounting and/or large industry company).
- Experience in U.S. federal and multi-state corporate tax compliance required.
- Experience with foreign tax reporting in a U.S. federal return required.
- Corptax tax software and healthcare industry experience a plus.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, tax laws and regulations, including updates and revisions, and reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or direct the work of others and strong cross-departmental relationship skills.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, self-motivated and value-added driven.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail with focus on accuracy.
- Experience in participating in corporate tax professional industry associations [examples include Tax Executives Institute (TEI) and Council on State Taxation (COST)].
- Strong working relationships with outside accounting firm and law firm subject matter experts.
- Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organization, project management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong tax accounting and research skills (e.g., Thomson Reuters CheckPoint, CCH, Bloomberg BNA, LexisNexis and Westlaw), including account reconciliation and analysis of book/tax differences.
- Advanced computer skills, Microsoft Office, tax research software. Experience with Corptax tax software preferred.
