Location: Irvine, CA (Onsite)

Work Schedules: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (Hybrid: Up to 2 days remote work from home available after the initial training period. Flexibility is required for occasional before or after-hours international calls to align with global teams).

Summary

As a key member of the North American commercial division for a premier, highly stable global manufacturing and medical technology corporation, the Regional Sales Manager will drive sustainable sales growth by identifying and executing regional business development opportunities. This position focuses on delivering high-quality medical components (specifically catheter-related materials) to end medical device manufacturers (OEMs) and contract catheter manufacturers (CMMs) across the West Coast territory.

Operating out of the regional office in Irvine, CA, this role is designed for a consultative, relationship-driven professional who takes deep pride in delivering life-saving medical solutions to society. Because the products are highly specialized and custom-engineered, the sales cycle is inherently long-term and strategic. The successful candidate will act as a vital consultant and cross-border bridge, deep-diving into client needs to translate complex engineering requirements into reality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Conduct direct, highly consultative outreach to client-side R&D developers and engineering teams, focusing heavily on matching technical solutions to their design needs rather than relying solely on traditional purchasing department channels.
  • Utilize advanced active listening and thorough diagnostic questioning to uncover the exact technical needs and pain points of medical device developers.
  • Act as a reliable, seamless bridge between West Coast clients and the corporate engineering and manufacturing facilities in Japan, accurately feeding back local technical data to ensure custom products are built to exact specifications.
  • Manage a lengthy, complex sales cycle patiently and strategically, prioritizing long-term relationship cultivation and value-driven solutions over quick transactional targets.
  • Gain a deep understanding of the customer experience, identify and fill product gaps, and generate new ideas to grow market share and drive territory growth.
  • Sustain and expand ongoing business development opportunities within the assigned West Coast territory by replicating successful applications where the company's products have demonstrated clear technical value.
  • Achieve and enhance approved supplier list (ASL) status with all key target accounts.
  • Deliver detailed market analysis of competitors' portfolios, pricing structures, and technological innovations to ensure the organization remains ahead of the market.
  • Answer technical inquiries from clients concerning product specifications, material uses, and industry compliance standards.
  • Provide detailed product information, formal quotes, and technical specifications for client bid requests.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal purchasing, logistics, and operations teams to confirm orders are processed with high accuracy and products are distributed properly.
  • Maintain an optimal balance between hunting for new business development and nurturing existing customer account relationships.
  • Conduct regular on-site visits to prospective customers and represent the organization as a product evangelist at major industry trade shows.
  • Partner with engineering teams to deliver quick, optimal resources and customized solutions to clients.
  • Provide leadership and colleagues with detailed commercial reports, including progress updates, pipeline health, and sales forecasts.
  • Partner with global teams on new organizational initiatives, such as ERP or CRM implementations.
  • Work cross-culturally with corporate teams in Japan and Europe, supporting a global network of clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience) is required.

  • 5 to 8 years of successful solution-selling or technical sales experience within the medical device or component sectors (ideally focusing on catheter-related materials, extrusions, or micro-components).
  • Exceptional, proven listening and technical consultation skills (hearing/bukan-ryoku). Candidates must be driven by product pride, societal contribution, and the satisfaction of solving complex engineering problems, rather than short-term, commission-heavy structures.
  • A highly stable career track with a history of long-term commitment to a single organization, matching the company's secure and stable corporate culture.
  • A strong foundational understanding of medical device components and manufacturing processes, with the ability to comfortably hold technical conversations with client R&D engineers.
  • Business-level proficiency in Japanese (written and verbal) is required to successfully manage the feedback loop and technical bridge with corporate headquarters and manufacturing plants in Japan.
  • A proactive, self-motivated "self-starter" with high cultural awareness, necessary to navigate cross-cultural business transactions between local clients and international offices.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and modern CRM platforms.
  • Ability to attend 25% to 50% regional travel is required for customer site visits, trade exhibitions, and corporate meetings.

  • Ability to travel internationally to the parent company in Japan (typically around the first year of employment) for advanced technical training.
