THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position leads engineering staff and oversees the design and review of transportation projects to ensure all work meets established standards. You will guide project planning, coordinate design efforts, and provide technical expertise throughout each project phase. As an Assistant Plans Engineer, you will perform the following duties:

  • Design Oversight: Review and approve project design submissions to ensure compliance with engineering standards and policies
  • Project Planning: Develop scopes, budgets, and schedules while guiding teams through project development from start to finish
  • Technical Leadership: Provide engineering expertise, recommend safety improvements, and certify plan quality through professional review
  • Team Management: Supervise project engineers and design staff by assigning work, coordinating activities, and supporting project completion
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Represent the Plans Unit at meetings and coordinate with internal units, municipalities, and consultants
  • Documentation Review: Conduct final plan reviews and ensure all construction and design documents are accurate and complete

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule (AWS).
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $82,621.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of professional civil engineering experience which includes three years in the appropriate specialty and one year of experience in directing the work of civil engineers.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.

Condition of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.

Post Employment Requirement:

  • For the Bridges and Transportation parentheticals, successful candidates with an out of state Professional Engineer license will be required to produce a valid Professional Engineer License issued by Pennsylvania within their initial six month probationary period.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
