Position Summary

Under the technical supervision of a Pathologist and Technical Supervisor, and administrative supervision of the Administrative Laboratory Director, this role performs a wide range of routine and specialized laboratory studies on blood, urine, and body fluid samples as ordered by a physician. The goal is to provide accurate data to support the diagnosis and treatment of disease in accordance with established standards and practices.

This position requires independent judgment, professional education, and certification.

Key Responsibilities General Professional Conduct

Technical & Clinical Responsibilities
  • Perform analytical testing and diagnostic procedures in accordance with laboratory protocols.
  • Comply with all established laboratory standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Follow quality control procedures to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents, and testing processes.
  • Identify instrument malfunctions or out-of-control test results and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ensure proper collection, labeling, handling, storage, and disposal of specimens.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of laboratory equipment and work areas.
  • Complete required competency assessments, proficiency checks, and policy reviews in a timely manner.
  • May rotate across multiple laboratory departments or be assigned to a specific area.
Minimum & Required Qualifications
  • Experience:

    • 1-3 years of laboratory experience preferred
    • Successful rotation through clinical laboratory departments or equivalent experience
  • Training:

    • Approximately 3 months of clinical and on-the-job training to achieve proficiency
  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Strong organizational and communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
    • Problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail
Education
  • Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution
    OR

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) plus completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course (minimum 50 weeks) and designation as a Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician)

  • Certification:

    • ASCP or equivalent certification preferred

Pay Range:

$25.68-$37.64
