Our team at HDR includes architects, engineers, urban planners, and strategic communications experts working together to deliver transportation, power delivery and water resources infrastructure projects to our clients and our communities. Your designs will positively impact the communities we support by making technical information easy to understand and act upon.

We are looking for a new member of HDR's North Texas Strategic Communications Creative Team. The successful candidate is a visual storyteller who demonstrates excellent creative and communications skills. They interpret internal and external client needs to deliver materials with high visual and emotional impact. The successful candidate will provide support to multiple project managers, designers, and coordinators in a variety of design-related tasks throughout a project's lifecycle. They should stay current with the latest design resources, communicate clearly, and have excellent attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. This is not a corporate communications or marketing position, but rather a strategic communications role that provides HDR's clients with compelling design work.

Responsibilities:

In the role of Graphic Designer 1, we'll count on you to:

  • Support the local and national Strategic Communications team in developing compelling, professional visual design that informs and educates clients, stakeholders, and the public about projects in their communities.

  • Create, revise, and update a wide range of deliverables including but not limited to exhibits, flyers, infographics, print advertisements, direct mailers, reports, maps/wayfinding graphics, social media graphics, email campaigns, presentations, style guides, stylized templates for long documents, logos, and assets for digital engagement and video production teams.

  • Interpret and distill highly technical information for easy understanding by mainstream audiences.

  • Prepare files for output and meet with vendors to discuss and estimate projects

  • Ensure quality control through approval of proofs and review of materials

  • Collaborate with project managers and project coordinators for content creation and design updates.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Web Design or Fine Arts related field of study or equivalent experience

  • 0 to 3 years professional experience

  • Local candidates preferred

  • While not required, experience in any of the following creative skillsets are of interest:

    • Illustration

    • Accessible design

    • Brand development

    • Video editing and/or animations

    • Photo simulation/visualizations (2D/3D)

    • Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

  • Flexible and adaptable to on-demand design bursts and iterative design processes

  • Service and client-oriented personality

  • Demonstrated interest in ongoing training/education to stay relevant with rapidly changing technology and trends

  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture

  • Interest in civic projects, including water, stormwater and wastewater infrastructure

Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) and Microsoft Office suite
  • Eye for design details, such as typography, alignment, hierarchy, etc
  • Portfolio showing design experience
  • An understanding of branding/brand development, communications, and research
