The School of Medicine at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Simulation Information Specialist with the Simulation Training & Education for Patient Safety About the Opportunity The Simulation Information Specialists will provide primary support for STEPS Learning Management system (currently LearningSpace). Other duties will include, but not be limited to, liaison with faculty to ensure learning activities requiring LearningSpace are appropriately designed and implemented, serve as oversight/proctor for summative sessions that require LearningSpace, and, as appropriate, teaching. - Operational
* Collaborates with management, faculty, and staff in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of new courses, scenarios, and simulation tools. * Provides support for Learning Management System software including user management and reporting as well as assisting with development of new educational offerings. * Collaborates with Martinsburg/Charleston SoM simulation programs to assist in coordinating program offerings on the three WVU SoM campuses; designs programs/activities to be shared with Martinsburg/Charleston School of Medicine. * Serves as direct liaison for SoM Eastern campus concerning their Learning Management System. * Serves as a direct liaison for Beckley & Potomac State Nursing remote campus sites concerning LearningSpace. * Assists instructors in developing evaluation tools, goals, and objectives for simulation experiences utilizing Learning Management System. * Monitors simulated exercises and provides, retrieves, summarizes and analyzes student evaluation forms/critiques. * Collects, imports, and maintains all data in the STEPS Evaluation Dashboard. * Present at implementation of events to assist in trouble shooting aspects of Learning Management System as they relate to the student activities. * Solicits instructor and student feedback following simulation experiences in order to analyze the impact of simulation on the learning process. * Participates in committee meetings. * Maintains data confidentiality and security, including sending, receiving, and maintaining electronic Video & Photo Release for all of STEPS's users. * Participate in technical training as necessary; attend/present at conferences to stay current with and influence simulation education. * Create innovative ideas, evaluate new equipment, and identify opportunities for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education. * Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty instructors, students, and other users of the simulation center. * Performs other operational duties, as assigned. * Designs innovative ideas to improve the technology and development of the Center; develops innovative strategies to enhance programs and services. Technical:
- Provides faculty with instructional tools and technical support to carry out simulated sessions.
Includes preparing educational materials for the course and collecting feedback from students. - Ensures that the Simulation Center is maintained as a clean, safe, and operational facility and as an optimal learning environment.
- Ensures appropriate set-up and cleaning of rooms for training sessions and meetings.
- Role plays as appropriate for simulated cases.
- Conducts tours of the Simulation Center and demonstrates equipment to new users and visitors.
- Participates in committee meetings as appropriate.
- Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty instructors, students, and other users of the Simulation Center.
- When necessary, assists in teaching various educational courses such as Orientation, BLS and First-Aid.
Pay Grade: 15
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years in the following:
- Progressive office experience and organizational skills.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, physiology and clinical applications (preferred).
- Knowledge of videotape recording, duplication, and editing.
- Knowledge of principles and methods of adult education.
- Computer proficiency in PC-based software applications: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and web design.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working independently.
- Previous experience in healthcare setting, pre-hospital or hospital or related experience. (Preferred)
- Self-motivated and willing to learn new skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and reliably meet deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize task demands and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to carry out responsibilities in a timely and meticulous manner demonstrating initiative and creativity.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with healthcare professionals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues.
- Ability to assess situations and adapt to highly dynamic environment.
- Willingness to work some evenings/weekends.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Bachelor's degree preferred.
