Description and Requirements

Job Overview:

This position will assist the in-house litigation team in many aspects of legal matters and cases including performing legal research, organizing documents, assisting with and preparing basic pleadings, responding to discovery requests and production of documents, working with witnesses to gather relevant information and documents for case preparation, and managing outside counsel's adherence to policies, procedures, and budgets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interfaces with outside counsel, foreign and domestic business units, and other sources to collect, compile, and summarize legal, factual, and technical documents and files, including documents received from witnesses and business units for use in legal matters by our outside counsel or other sources and vice versa.
  • Tracks and monitors active cases as needed. Manages calendars, docket systems, and assists in meeting deadlines.
  • Drafts and/or proofreads legal documents including, but not limited to, basic correspondence, declarations, subpoena responses and other discovery-related materials.
  • Assists in the identification of relevant subject matter experts within the company and the collection of information and documents from such individuals for use in case matters and responding to discovery requests.
  • Prepares for and participates in witness meetings, collecting relevant information from such meetings.
  • Works with internal finance teams on budgeting and collection matters including collection and distribution of indemnification payments.
  • Prepares drafts of external audit reports and internal litigation reporting for presentations to various business units.
  • Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities and projects, as needed by the organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in a law firm or corporate setting supporting litigation.
  • Associate degree in paralegal studies or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to interact with people at all levels of the corporate structure, prioritize and handle numerous competing demands in a high-volume, fast-paced working environment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in independent settings.
  • Experience with intellectual property and complex litigation matters.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts including outside attorneys, senior management, and business associates.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends and be on call as required.
  • Anticipate support needs of attorneys across a variety of corporate legal matters.
  • Manage various legal department projects and initiatives.
  • Identify and resolve or escalate issues in a timely manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point, and Adobe
  • Willing to learn and become proficient with internal case management and e-billing systems like Legal Tracker, OnIt. and BillingPoint.
  • Superb attention to detail, as well as organizational, planning and multi-tasking skills, particularly with case files/document management to keep and maintain current dockets and tracking systems for internal reporting purposes.
  • Must have experience handling caseload of fast-paced/multi-party litigation matters.
