Overview

The NFAC provides the United States with the capability of performing ground-based aerodynamic and acoustic experiments at speeds from static to nearly 350 mph on large-scale and full-scale aerospace vehicles and components. This complex includes a 40- by 80-foot wind tunnel and an 80- by 120-foot wind tunnel.

AEDC's mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, ground test and flight test. Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.

An exciting career opportunity exists for a Maintenance and Reliability Specialist position supporting a team of engineers and technicians who maintain and operate the largest wind tunnel in the world.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for ensuring the reliability of critical NFAC systems and infrastructure by developing and implementing a holistic maintenance strategy. This includes applying Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles and managing the full lifecycle of facility maintenance subcontracts. The successful candidate will use failure analysis and predictive maintenance techniques to inform maintenance strategies, whether executed by in-house teams or external contractors. This position will work closely with system engineers and the reliability engineers in the Reliability Engineering & Analytics group at Arnold AFB and NFAC to develop, maintain, and improve a long-term reliability and maintenance program for AEDC.



Responsibilities

Job Duties:

    Ultimate responsibility for the development, and implementation of RCM/PM Optimization program at NFAC; Implementation of this program includes influencing Asset Managers and Asset Owners to produce a conscientious shift to a proactive maintenance program through a failure mode driven maintenance strategy, best practice planning & scheduling, proper application of reliability engineering principles, and the increased use of condition monitoring technologies
  • Develop, write, and manage Statements of Work (SOW), technical specifications, and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for facility maintenance subcontracts on critical systems such as but not limited to: elevators, cranes, mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPS), and HVAC systems.
  • Evaluate equipment failures and maintenance records (OWAMS, E-Matrix, etc.) to identify inefficiencies and trends, shifting from reactive repairs to a proactive, Condition-Based Maintenance approach.
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee on-site subcontractor activities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and the dynamic research testing schedule.
  • Implement innovative and cost-effective Predictive Maintenance (PdM) strategies (vibration analysis, infrared thermography, oil analysis, etc.) to inform both internal maintenance plans and subcontractor scopes of work.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Solutions Branch and system engineers on tools, techniques, and procedures for both internal and external maintenance work.
  • Hands-on fieldwork is expected; multidisciplinary experience maintaining facility mechanical (hydraulics, pneumatics, compressors, pumps), electrical (motors), and control systems (PLC, instrumentation) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply design and engineering concepts to provide effective solutions
  • Excellent communication skills
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy
  • Performs other related duties as required

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 8 years of work experience in the maintenance, reliability and/or RCM fields or a combination of work experience and formal Technical Degree
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network
  • Current U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Security Clearance
  • 5 years of relevant maintenance and/or subcontracting work
  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability professional - CMRP certification strongly preferred
  • Experience in operations and maintenance, optimization, Interest and/or knowledge of large industrial operations and dynamic work schedule activities
