THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Insurance Market Conduct Examiner 1, you will review insurance company practices, policies, and documentation to help ensure compliance with Pennsylvania laws and to protect consumers. Your efforts will strengthen trust in an industry that touches nearly every household. Responsibilities in this role include:

  • Market Conduct Examinations: Participate in market conduct examinations on-site at insurance companies, in-house at the Insurance Department's office, or teleworking from home
  • Record Review: Examine insurance company files and electronic records such as policy forms, claims, complaints, underwriting, marketing, licensing, and more for adherence to legal requirements
  • Evaluation and Analysis: Identify violations of law and general concerns by evaluating claims processing procedures, analyzing claim payment data for trends, identifying procedural problems, reviewing company consumer complaint processes, and analyzing sample cases
  • Documentation: Secure and retain copies of documentation and evidence to support findings
  • Corrective Action: Prepare reports of findings that identify and recommend corrective action necessary for insurance companies to remediate consumer harm and correct non-compliance; attend and testify at administrative hearings as necessary

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to three days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Insurance Market Conduct Examiner Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional experience in insurance market conduct examinations, insurance company financial examinations, insurance investigations, insurance financial analysis, insurance underwriting, insurance policy review and analysis, insurance claims administration, or insurance sales, and a bachelor's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
