Summary of Job Duties:The Biostatistician I supports the Biostatistics Department's mission to enhance the quality of research conducted at UAMS by providing statistical expertise and methodological guidance to investigators across a variety of clinical, translational, epidemiologic, and population health research projects. This position serves as a member of the Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR) within the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute under the direction of the BSR Director.

The Biostatistician I collaborates with interdisciplinary research teams to design studies, develop analytic strategies, manage and prepare complex datasets, and conduct statistical analyses using software such as SAS, R, or STATA. Responsibilities include developing statistical analysis plans, contributing to grant applications, protocols, manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations, and interpreting findings to support research objectives.

This role works closely with faculty investigators, research staff, informatics teams, database managers, and research administrators while managing multiple projects with increasing independence based on Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a closely related quantitative field.PLUS one (1) year of experience conducting inferential statistical analyses.

  • Experience collaborating with research teams on research projects, grant proposals, and manuscripts.

  • Experience writing statistical methods and results sections for reports, manuscripts, or grant applications.

  • Proficiency with statistical software such as SAS, R, STATA, or similar programs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex statistical concepts to non-statisticians.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of statistical methodologies, study design, and data analysis techniques.

  • Ability to manage and analyze large, complex datasets.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.

  • Ability to communicate technical statistical information clearly and effectively.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary research teams.

  • Attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity.

  • Knowledge of clinical, translational, epidemiologic, or population health research methodologies preferred.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses using SAS, R, STATA, or similar statistical software.

  • Collaborate with investigators on study design, analytic strategies, and data interpretation for clinical, translational, and population health research projects.

  • Query, clean, manage, and prepare large and complex datasets, including electronic health records, claims data, and registries.

  • Develop statistical analysis plans and provide methodological guidance throughout the research lifecycle.

  • Contribute statistical methods and results sections for protocols, grant applications, manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations.

  • Communicate statistical concepts and findings effectively to interdisciplinary teams, including clinicians, investigators, and research staff.

  • Maintain collaborative relationships with informatics teams, database managers, and research administrators.

  • Manage multiple concurrent research projects while ensuring accuracy, quality assurance, and timely completion of deliverables.

  • Support departmental and team-wide research initiatives and collaborative efforts.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
