A Brief Overview
The Emergency Preparedness Fellowship Program at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is a 1-year program (with a vested option for extension) designed to give a current student in a recognized Master's program or recent graduate the opportunity for career and professional development in a health care setting. The Emergency Preparedness Fellowship prepares the candidate for career and leadership opportunities in the fields of emergency management, public health preparedness, healthcare emergency preparedness, and other related employment avenues through direct participation in activities created to build and strengthen essential planning, mitigation, response, and recovery skills. The Emergency Preparedness Fellow will follow a quarterly program that is designed to guide and demonstrate competencies of specific tasks through each quarterly section. Fellows will be prepared to submit for their AEM/CEM certifications by the end of the Fellowship.

The Fellow will serve with the Emergency Preparedness Team to act as a leader, advisor, and participant in developing and implementing emergency management policies and practices. The Fellow will engage with senior level management on planning organizational needs and goals, objectives, and criteria for creating plans, policies, procedures, and job aids that are essential in maintaining the safety and well-being of patients, families, visitors, vendors, and staff of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The Fellow position requires a Monday-Friday, 40-hour-per-week work schedule. In addition, the Fellow will be required to be included as a member of the 24/7 On-Call staff for the period of one week on a rotating basis. Furthermore, Fellows will be required to act as a subject matter expert on the Incident Management Team and potentially staff the Hospital Command Center for extended periods of time during emergency situations

What you will do

  • Develops plans, policies, procedures, and job aids to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals within the CHOP Network; creates, executes, and evaluates Tabletop, Functional, and Full-Scale Exercises to test and improve new and existing plans and procedures
  • Serves as the emergency preparedness Subject Matter Expert on select CHOP committees and initiatives to maintain a culture of emergency preparedness, and prepares and conducts presentations on emergency preparedness initiatives for said committees
  • Conducts research, including literature review and off-site visits to ensure that emergency preparedness best practices are undertaken at CHOP; serves on committees inside and outside of CHOP to further develop healthcare preparedness in the region in accordance with best practices
  • Serves as the 24/7 Emergency Preparedness On-Call staff member on a rotating basis to support emergency response virtually or in-person, depending on the needs and location of the incident
  • Assists in supporting the overall emergency preparedness portfolio and other related duties incidental to the work in each phase of emergency management - mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree - Required
  • Master's Degree Enrolled in with emergency management, public health, emergency preparedness, homeland security, or related fields of study - Required
  • Master's Degree - Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative methods for the development and management of emergency preparedness programs and initiatives
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of ICS, HICS, NDMS, NIMS, and HSEEP
  • Demonstrated analytic ability
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Commitment to cultural competency and diversity in the workplace
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain and operationalize emergency preparedness associated technologies, as needed
  • Willing to be challenged at a high level

$20,800.00 - $110,400.00 Annually

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
