The Community Volunteer Engagement Specialist mobilizes volunteers and community partnerships to strengthen mission delivery and community resilience across the North Texas Region. Based in Dallas, this role primarily supports community mobilization and volunteer engagement efforts within DFW priority communities while also supporting regional steady-state programming, workforce engagement, and operational coordination across lines of service.

Working in partnership with Line of Service leaders, Chapter Executive Directors, Community Volunteer Leaders (CVLs), and regional leadership, this position helps strengthen volunteer capacity, support community-led resilience efforts, and improve coordination between volunteers, programs, and community partners.

This role serves as a player/coach by directly supporting community engagement activities while also helping regional teams strengthen volunteer connection, workforce visibility, data tracking, and sustainable community engagement practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the Community Volunteer Workforce:

  • Grow volunteer capacity and community engagement to support local mission priorities and community-based programming
  • Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention activities tied to regional mission needs
  • Liaise with Executive Directors, Community Volunteer Leaders (CVLs), Line of Service leaders, and regional teams to support workforce and engagement needs
  • Support volunteer engagement activities connected to preparedness programs, resilience initiatives, veteran services, restoring family links, and other approved services
  • Create visibility and engagement opportunities for volunteers, youth groups, and community partners
  • Support volunteer coordination and engagement activities tied to priority communities and regional initiatives

Community Mobilization & Partnership Support:

  • Support implementation of regional community mobilization strategies, with primary focus on DFW priority communities
  • Assist Executive Directors and chapter teams in strengthening local community engagement and resilience efforts
  • Support coordination with community-based organizations, municipalities, indigenous tribal partners, schools, faith-based organizations, and other stakeholders
  • Help sustain community engagement rhythms, partnership coordination, and community-led resilience activities
  • Support cross-functional coordination between volunteers, chapters, partners, and Line of Service teams

Community Volunteer Leader (CVL) Development:

  • Support identification, onboarding, and engagement of Community Volunteer Leaders (CVLs) from priority communities across chapters
  • Assist with ongoing CVL development, coaching, and connection to Red Cross systems and activities
  • Support sustainable volunteer leadership structures within communities
  • Help strengthen local volunteer engagement and readiness activities through community-based leadership

Opportunity Design:

  • Support development of innovative and non-traditional volunteer opportunities that strengthen mission delivery and community engagement
  • Support scalable volunteer engagement approaches aligned with regional priorities
  • Serve as a resource in designing volunteer opportunities that align community, organizational, and volunteer needs

Continuous Improvement:

  • Support data collection, reporting, and tracking related to volunteer engagement and community mobilization activities
  • Assist with program evaluation, operational learning, and process improvement efforts
  • Support development of scalable practices that strengthen operational consistency and community engagement efforts

Volunteer and Employee Matrixed Management:

  • Directly lead volunteer teams locally and support regional volunteer engagement activities
  • Work collaboratively across matrixed leadership environments with Executive Directors, Line of Service leaders, volunteers, and community partners
  • Support coordination and alignment efforts that strengthen regional collaboration and mission delivery

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, public administration, nonprofit management, community development, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in volunteer management, workforce planning, community engagement, nonprofit operations, or related mission-driven work
  • Strong relationship management, facilitation, and partnership development skills
  • Ability to work effectively within matrixed leadership environments and across multiple teams and stakeholders
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project coordination abilities
  • Ability to translate operational needs into actionable engagement strategies and processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related workforce or volunteer management systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in community resilience, preparedness, or community mobilization initiatives
  • Experience developing volunteer leaders or community-based leadership structures
  • Familiarity with Red Cross mission areas, volunteer systems, or disaster cycle services
  • Experience supporting cross-functional leadership coordination and regional initiatives
  • Experience working with rural, indigenous, or culturally diverse communities
  • Experience supporting data tracking, reporting, and operational accountability systems

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to travel regularly throughout the North Texas Region.
  • Available to contribute to response operations in certain situations
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends in support of community events, meetings, trainings, and resilience activities
  • Familiarity with volunteer engagement models, workforce development practices, and community partnership strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and maintain collaborative relationships across diverse communities and leadership environments
  • Commitment to community engagement, volunteerism, collaboration, and mission-driven service

PAY INFORMATION: The annual salary range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. **We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.**
