The University of Iowa Health Care department of Radiology is seeking a Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist to prepare, administer and measure radioactive isotopes in therapeutic procedures, maintain a variety of complex nuclear medicine and pharmacy records, and perform required quality control on pharmacy and clinical instruments, that require independent judgment and initiative in order to obtain information for use by physicians in diagnosing or treating patient illness.

Percent of Time:PRN, currently every other Friday.

Location:Waukee, IA Mission, Cancer & Blood




Position Responsibilities



* Perform duties of Staff Nuclear Medicine Technologist as required and assigned.

* Responsible for conducting clinical investigational procedures and trouble-shooting technical problems and equipment breakdown.

* Develop quality assurance testing parameters for specialized instrumentation.

* Develop policies and procedures for therapeutic procedures and imaging areas.

* Coordinate planning and scheduling of diagnostic procedures and imaging areas.

* Requisition and inventory supplies for imaging areas and procedures.

* Consult with attending physicians to improve quality of procedures.

* Operate radiation detection instruments to measure concentrations of radioisotopes.

* Prepare radioactive isotopes for administration to patients and to calculate proper doses.

* Maintain records of tests conducted, test results and the use and disposition of radioactive materials.

* Calibrate radiation detection instruments as prescribed by accepted methods to maintain quality control.

* Use established radiation safety precautions to avoid radioactive contamination.

* Provide information and instructions to patients about the nature of the requested diagnostic and/or therapeutic examination.

* Establish relationships with patients and attend to physical and emotional needs.

* Practice sterile techniques and prevent cross-contamination.

* Demonstrate proficiency in performing all nuclear medicine procedures.

Education Requirements



* A Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology approved by the Council of Education of the American Medical Association or equivalent combination of education and experience is required




Experience Requirements



* Reasonable (1-3 years) progressively responsible experience in nuclear medicine procedures and related computer applications is required.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.




Certification Requirements



* Certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in nuclear medicine is required.

* Certification as a Nuclear Medical Technologist by the Iowa Public Health Department as documented by an Iowa Permit to Practice (IPP) is required.




Desirable Qualifications



* 6 months - 1-year nuclear medicine developmental and/or clinical investigative experience is desired.

* 6 months - 1-year nuclear medicine technology supervisory or teaching experience is desired.

* 3 months or more experience using the "Epic" electronic medical record is desired.

* 3 months or more experience working with theranostics.
