| Job Description |
Versademics Learning Centers - 3950 Victory Lane, Winterville, NC 28590 - is seeking two Federal Work Study Students to serve as Summer Camp Counselors and Group Leaders for our 2026 Summer Camp.
Versademics is a faith-based nonprofit afterschool and summer program serving K-12 youth in Pitt County. Our name blends versatile and academics; reflecting our mission to develop scholars who excel academically, socially, and in extracurricular activities. Since 2020, we have served hundreds of families across Winterville, Greenville, Belvoir, and North Greenville. Our summer camp combines academic enrichment, Bible study, structured recreation, field trips, and small-group mentoring within a Christian, whole-child framework. This is a hands-on role with kids. A typical day includes leading a small group of campers through reading and math practice, facilitating themed enrichment activities, supervising recreation and meals, helping with transitions, and building real relationships with the children in your group.
Job duties include:
* Lead and supervise an assigned small group of K-8 campers throughout the daily schedule
* Support the implementation of prepared lesson plans, activity guides, and
SEL (social-emotional learning) curricula
* Provide academic support during designated reading and math blocks
* Facilitate enrichment activities including arts,
STEM projects, recreation, and team-building games
* Supervise campers during meals, transitions, field trips, and outdoor play
* Use positive, consistent classroom management strategies grounded in patience and respect
* Build genuine relationships with campers and serve as a positive role model
* Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, fellow staff, and program leadership
* Participate in pre-camp training and weekly staff meetings
* Maintain accurate attendance records and incident documentation as needed
* Help with daily setup, cleanup, and care of program spaces

| Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.) |
* Majors in Education, Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, Recreation, Public Health, or related fields are a strong fit, but all majors are welcome
* Prior experience working with children or youth in any capacity (camp, tutoring, coaching, babysitting, church youth ministry, etc.)
* Comfortable working outdoors during Eastern NC summer conditions, including heat and humidity
* Reliable transportation to Winterville, NC
* Patience, energy, and a genuine interest in the lives of young people
* Comfortable working within a Christian, faith-based program environment

CPR/First Aid certification is a plus but not required (training available) |
