Manager Hazardous Materials Program Overview:

Sun Country Airlines is seeking a Manager Hazardous Materials Program to report directly to the Sr. Manager Safety Programs and is tasked with oversight and compliance with hazardous material, dangerous goods, and hazardous waste regulations for Sun Country Airlines.

The Manager Hazardous Materials Program is responsible for acting as the subject matter expert regarding the Sun Country Airlines' Hazardous Materials Program.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and management of Sun Country Airlines Hazardous Materials Program to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal Regulations, Company/Department rules and policies during airline operations.
  • Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and operating authorities are obtained and maintained for the transportation of hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
  • Act as key point of contact and communication for hazardous materials and dangerous goods between the department and all industry regulatory bodies which include but are not limited to the FAA, TSA, DoD, and OSHA.
  • Establish an effective system of continuous improvement of processes and procedures, in order to improve safety and productivity of operations, both internal and for those under the supervision of contracted service providers.
  • Acts as manual author of Sun Country Hazardous Materials Program. Creates and implements policies and procedures to ensure the safe handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
  • Responsible for the development of hazardous materials and dangerous goods training and ensures employees and approved contractor personnel are qualified and trained to conduct safe operations.
  • Reviews industry and regulatory updates to ensure industry best practices are in place for Hazardous Materials Program compliance. Attend industry meetings/conferences as well as work corroboratively with other air carriers, FAA, and industry resources. Stay informed of industry trends and best practices related to hazardous materials and dangerous goods and make recommendations for improvement as necessary.
  • Act as safety auditor for Internal Evaluation Program, Safety Investigations, and high risk of operations including on-site auditing of operations for hazardous materials and dangerous goods compliance. Investigate any incidents or accidents involving hazardous materials or dangerous goods and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Provide guidance and support to other departments and employees regarding hazardous materials and dangerous goods compliance.
  • Maintain and analyze data gathered through safety reporting database to include Hazards, Irregularities, and communicate findings to all affected departments.
  • Provides regular performance reports and develops strategies to enhance hazardous materials and dangerous goods safety.
  • Participate in emergency response drills and exercise to test and improve the Company's response to accidents and incidents, including those involving hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
  • Conducts all tasks in a safe and efficient manner complying with all local, state, and federal safety and health regulations, programmatic standards, and with any special safety concerns identified by Sun Country Airlines.
  • Enhances Safety Promotion by acting as the ambassador of the SMS
  • On call 24/7
  • Other duties, as required


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials and dangerous goods regulations related to air transportation
  • Previous experience in airline operations with hazardous materials and dangerous goods programs


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Industry certification or training related to hazardous materials and dangerous goods.


Compensation:

Pay range: $55,000 - $70,000 USD annually. This is the base compensation hiring range for this role.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
