Primary Responsibilities:

HDR's Aviation Engineer will participate in the HDR Airfield Design Community of Practice (CoP), focusing on design and engineering for general aviation, commercial service, and military airfields. Duties include: assisting in the management of larger projects or managing smaller projects; preparing or reviewing scopes, budgets, and schedules; preparing or overseeing civil aviation related designs, studies, and technical reports per FAA standards, including airfield geometric layouts, airfield pavement sections design, basic airspace analysis, airfield pavement markings, airfield electrical layout, grading and drainage; making decisions on design and engineering procedures as needed; preparing or overseeing, and managing submittals for various sizes of contract plans, specifications, engineer's report and engineer's opinion of probable construction cost for different project milestones; performing or overseeing work in AutoCAD Civil 3D, FAARFIELD (FAA software for airfield pavement design) and AviPlan (a specialized aircraft movement visualization software); staying abreast of FAA Orders and Advisory Circulars (AC), local agency requirements, and client manuals; serving and/or growing as a technical expert in specialty elements such as airfield pavement design, phasing, airfield electrical, grading, and drainage; coordinating with subconsultants, contractors, and vendors; conducting verbal and written communication with clients and leading design review meetings; performing construction administration such as reviewing submittals, leading construction meetings, and responding to Requests for Information; compiling project records and maintaining SharePoint sites and project files; planning, organizing and supervising project work of other junior staff and technicians; mentoring junior engineers and technical staff, fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing; implementing and performing quality control on project deliverables; and providing marketing support to win aviation projects.

Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 3 years of experience in aviation engineering.
  • Experience may include professional or internship experience and must include experience in: airfield design; airfield safety areas and construction phasing; permitting for civil aviation projects; construction administration; FAA Advisory Circulars; AutoCAD Civil 3D; AviPlan; FAARFIELD; Revu Bluebeam; and Microsoft Office.
  • Must hold Engineer-in-Training certification or must have passed Fundamentals of Engineering examination. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is not a prerequisite for this position.
  • May include nationwide travel for site visits, conferences or client meetings 2 to 4 times a year.
  • NOTE: All HDR positions in the US may be subject to background checks and/or pre-employment drug testing.

The expected pay range for this position is $106,870 - $163,163.
