The Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking a Research Project Coordinator.


The Research Project Coordinator administratively coordinates research protocol implementation, typically for a single study. Will ensure efficient logistical implementation of the study activities and provide administrative support for all related issues.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all activities of a research study to ensure validity of findings.
  • Work with the Principal Investigator or senior research staff to develop operational plans to meet research goals.
  • Develop tools and procedures for data collection and study processes.
  • Collect and organize data per study requirements, e.g. participant interviews, administer questionnaires; conduct background research, laboratory processing, etc.
  • Ensure adherence to protocols and procedures.
  • Assist with setup of data collection system and enter and organize data.
  • Oversee record management for research study.
  • Oversee budget expenditures for study operations.
  • Assist in coordinating study meetings.
  • Participate in study meetings and provide updates on protocol implementation status and make recommendations on operational issues.
  • Conduct literature searches to provide background information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

In addition to the duties described above

  • Collects and documents laboratory specimens in compliance with assigned protocol; this may include venipuncture, urine collection, and nasal secretion collection, stool collection.
  • Processes, stores, and ships specimens according to protocol and regulatory guidelines.
  • Operates clinical laboratory machinery
  • Performs and documents clinical laboratory tests in compliance with CLIA guidelines (i.e. urine HCG), and performs research laboratory tests as assigned by the Principal Investigator
  • Meets with study monitors and assists with monitoring visits
  • Documents protocol deviations


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related public health field or equivalent experience
  • Experience with clinical trials
  • Certified via SOCRA or ACRP within 2 years of hiring
  • Ability to flex schedule based on study need; including possibly working evenings, nights or weekends.
