Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Diagnostic Engineer supporting TOS II, at Tunnel 9 in White Oak, Maryland. The candidate will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for operating and maintaining, as well as supporting tests the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Job Summary

Diagnostic Engineers provide engineering functions to support hypersonic wind-tunnel testing at Tunnel 9. The candidate will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of state-of-the-art, non-intrusive optical diagnostics, including their design, development, installation, and data analysis. This role requires staying abreast of advanced diagnostic techniques, providing technical and budgetary oversight for laser and measurement systems, and contributing specialized knowledge to pretest planning. The Diagnostic Engineer will also represent the organization in technical forums, maintain critical laser and optical equipment, and perform all necessary preparatory work to ensure successful diagnostic implementation for customer tests.

Job Duties:

    Design, develop, install, perform and analyze data from state-of-the art, non-intrusive optical diagnostics utilized in Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel 9.
  • Stays abreast of advanced diagnostic techniques being developed/utilized within the academic, government and commercial communities & provides technical evaluation for those that could be transitioned to use in Tunnel 9.
  • Provides technical and budgetary information necessary to maintain, sustain and improve laser diagnostic and measurement systems at Tunnel 9.
  • Contributes specialized knowledge during pretest planning including the definition of Tunnel 9 test requirements as they relate to the deployment of advanced measurements utilizing non-intrusive optical diagnostics to meet customer objectives.
  • Represents AEDC at Technical Meetings and on Technical Review teams, as required. Serves on technical boards or committees and utilizes technical expertise to identify/correct deficiencies/limitations in support capabilities.
  • Maintains lasers & equipment used for optical diagnostics at Tunnel 9.
  • Performs necessary preparatory work to implement optical diagnostics at tunnel; including mixing and application of temperature sensitive paints, performing calibrations of specialized optical equipment in a laboratory environment, and moving and installing laser systems and optical equipment as needed.
  • Complete safety packages (e.g., write Hazard Analysis, and Safety Review Board presentations) required for operation of hazardous equipment.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Scientific or Engineering discipline.
  • M-06 no experience required
  • M-07 3 years of progressive and relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and progressive and relevant experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and the AEDC local area network.
  • Current U. S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctorate's degree in Scientific or Engineering discipline.
  • Any pre-screening/tests required (not including standard background/clearance checks).
  • Hands on experience repairing, maintaining, and operating laser and optical systems.
  • Active Secret clearance.
