The Chophouse Bartender ensures a premier dining experience by delivering food and beverages with exceptional service, seamlessly combining order-taking and menu delivery in a friendly, courteous, helpful, timely, and professional manner, all within an upscale, fine-dining atmosphere. Connected to the newly expanded Baird Center, Hilton Milwaukee is Milwaukee's largest hotel. Built in 1927 as the Schroeder Hotel, Hilton Milwaukee offers 729 well-appointed guest rooms and over 34,000 square feet of meeting and event space. - Set up and stock the bar daily, including beer, wine, spirits, paper products, straws, stirrers, condiments, and produce.
- Maintain stock, cut, and store fresh garnishes, juices, and perishables to ensure quality.
- Greet guests, take drink orders, mix, garnish, and present drinks using standard recipes and portion control.
- Understand drink menu, wine list, ingredients, preparation, and service.
- Efficiently use POS and manage bar inventory.
- Handle cash transactions, verify charges, and process guest checks.
- Perform general cleaning tasks using standard products to meet health standards and maintain glassware.
- Must adhere to all State, Federal, and Corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated guests to ensure all laws are being followed.
- Other duties as assigned such as assisting security with disorderly guests and acting as a server when guests want to be served in the bar area.
What do you bring to the role?
- At least two years of bartending or bar service experience in a fine dining outlet.
- Must be available to work on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Excellent communication skills and familiarity with the hospitality industry.
- Must have a high level of knowledge of wine, spirits, and beer. Must be able to recite vintages, regions, and multiple levels of liquor.
- Ability to obtain any government required license or certificate. Bartending certificate required. TIPS certification required.
- Able to carry large trays up to 35 lbs. with one hand and stand/work in confined spaces for long periods.
- Basic math skills for cash register operations, making change, totaling checks, and understanding portion sizes.
- Proficient in English for guest communication and order taking; basic writing skills for requisitions, balance sheets, and vouchers.
- Manual dexterity for garnishes, handling glassware and bottles, scooping ice, mixing drinks, and retrieving stock.
