Primary Care Physician - Peaks Island Clinic

MaineHealth Family Medicine is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Family Medicine Physician to join our Peaks Island Clinic, a unique and rewarding practice serving one of Maine's most vibrant island communities.

This full-time (.8 FTE) position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive primary care to a close-knit patient population while enjoying meaningful relationships with patients, broad-spectrum family medicine practice.

Located just a short ferry ride from Portland, Peaks Island is home to approximately 800 year-round residents and a thriving seasonal community. The clinic serves as a critical healthcare resource for island residents, many of whom face transportation barriers and rely heavily on local primary care services. As the community continues to age and patient complexity increases, we are seeking a physician who values continuity, community-based care, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Position Highlights

  • FTE breakdown: .5 FTE clinical, .1 FTE precepting, .1 FTE Faculty
  • Clinic schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
  • Outpatient-only practice with no inpatient responsibilities
  • Manage a well-established patient panel with opportunities for growth
  • Provide comprehensive care across the lifespan, including preventive care, chronic disease management, and coordination of specialty services
  • Work within an integrated MaineHealth primary care network with access to specialty consultation and system resources
  • Build long-term relationships with patients in a highly connected community setting

Academic and Teaching Opportunities

As part of MaineHealth Family Medicine, this position offers the opportunity to participate in the education of Family Medicine residents and medical students. The Peaks Island clinic provides a distinctive rural and community-based training environment where learners can experience continuity-focused primary care and gain exposure to the unique challenges and rewards of practicing in an island community.

Teaching opportunities may include:

  • Precepting Family Medicine residents
  • Mentoring medical students
  • Participating in MaineHealth's academic and educational initiatives
  • Contributing to the development of innovative rural and community-based training experiences

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a physician who:

  • Is Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine
  • Enjoys practicing full-spectrum outpatient primary care
  • Values continuity and relationship-centered medicine
  • Is comfortable managing complex chronic disease and caring for an aging population
  • Has an interest in teaching and mentoring learners
  • Appreciates the unique rewards of serving a rural and geographically isolated community
