Ampcus Inc. is a certified global provider of a broad range of Technology and Business consulting services. We are in search of a highly motivated candidate to join our talented Team. Job Title: Infrastructure Platform Automation Architect Location(s): Chicago, IL (Remote) Job Description The Infrastructure Platform Automation Architect is a senior technical leader responsible for shaping and delivering automation at scale across enterprise infrastructure platforms. This role designs the automation strategy, reference architectures, and reusable patterns that reduce toil, standardize operations, and improve reliability across hybrid environments (onprem and cloud). You will partner closely with platform owners, operations teams, and service management to translate outcomes into automation roadmaps and measurable improvements. In this role, you will tackle complex, ambiguous problems-modernizing runbooks into eventdriven workflows, integrating automation with monitoring/observability and ITSM, and enforcing secure, governed execution. You will coach engineers, influence stakeholders, and ensure automation solutions are resilient, maintainable, and aligned to service-level objectives and enterprise controls. Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the enterprise automation architecture, standards, and reusable frameworks for infrastructure platform operations.
- Design and implement endtoend automation workflows (provisioning, configuration, patching, compliance, remediation) across hybrid infrastructure.
- Integrate automation with ITSM processes (incident, change, request, CMDB) and observability tooling to enable eventdriven and closedloop operations.
- Establish governance for automation content including code quality, peer review, testing, release management, documentation, and lifecycle ownership.
- Lead root cause and reliability reviews to identify toil and prioritize automation opportunities with clear ROI and operational impact.
- Partner with security and risk teams to embed identity, secrets management, least privilege, and auditability into automation solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to automation engineers and platform admins; develop patterns and accelerators to scale adoption.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to create roadmaps, success metrics, and operational KPIs; communicate progress and outcomes to leadership.
- Evaluate and onboard automation and orchestration tooling; define integration patterns and reference implementations.
Required Skills
- Extensive experience designing automation architectures for enterprise infrastructure (hybrid cloud and onprem).
- Strong proficiency in infrastructure-as-code and configuration management (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell/CLI automation).
- Workflow/orchestration design experience (e.g., Rundeck, AWX/Ansible Automation Platform, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent).
- Expertise integrating automation with ITSM (e.g., ServiceNow) including change enablement and CMDB alignment.
- Solid engineering practices: version control (Git), CI/CD for automation, testing approaches, and modular reusable code design.
- Experience with observability/monitoring integrations to trigger or validate remediation (metrics, alerts, logs, runbook automation).
- Strong understanding of security controls for automation (RBAC, secrets management, credential vaulting, audit logging).
- Ability to produce architecture documentation, runbooks, and standards; strong stakeholder communication and technical leadership.
- Relevant technical certifications are a plus (e.g., Red Hat, Microsoft Azure, AWS, HashiCorp Terraform, ServiceNow, or automation platform certifications).
Desired Skills
- Experience implementing eventdriven or closedloop automation and AIOps use cases.
- SRE/reliability practices (SLO/SLI design, error budgets, incident response automation, postincident reviews).
- Container and cloud-native ecosystem exposure (Kubernetes operators, GitOps patterns).
- Experience with policy-as-code and compliance automation (e.g., OPA/Gatekeeper, InSpec, Azure Policy).
- Data and API integration skills (REST APIs, Python scripting) to extend automation capabilities.
- Experience building operating models and adoption plans for automation platforms across multiple teams.
