BASIC FUNCTION

The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe setup, operation, monitoring, and basic maintenance of the Neiland Press SB-1000 in support of shipyard manufacturing and production activities. This position ensures production goals, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently achieved while maintaining equipment reliability and operational efficiency.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous industrial, manufacturing, fabrication, or shipyard experience preferred.
  • Experience operating hydraulic press equipment or heavy industrial machinery preferred.
  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to read tape measures, calipers, gauges, and other measuring devices.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions and production documentation.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and functional drawings.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical/ hydraulic machinery
  • Understanding ship shell plate fitment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Physically able to lift equipment, work in confined spaces, and climb ladders or scaffolds as needed.
  • The operator must demonstrate mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in a heavy industrial environment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Safely operate the Neiland Press SB-1000 ( Roll Forming ) according to company procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Perform machine setup, adjustments, and operational checks prior to production runs.
  • Monitor machine performance and production quality throughout operation.
  • Read and interpret production schedules, work orders, drawings, specifications, and operating instructions.
  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, and quality of finished products using measuring tools and inspection methods.
  • Identify defects, equipment malfunctions, or process issues and report concerns immediately.
  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with troubleshooting and repairs when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate production, inspection, and operational records.
  • Follow all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with housekeeping standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Work overtime, weekends, or shift schedules as operational needs require.
  • Overhead crane operation desired
  • Heavy Metal forming machinery operation preferred. Rollers, Press Brakes etc...
