Position Summary

The 3rd shift Senior Braider Operator will operate TMW-3deck and TMW-4deck braiders and monitor for proper product quality.

Responsibilities

  1. Know how to operate NEB, OMA, TMW 24/36 braiders and train entry level braider operators as needed

  2. Pull tooling and materials according to manufacturing specifications for applicable machine(s), such as springs, braid rings, tube guides, wound bobbin, core tube, etc.

  3. Inspect tooling before using and track material used in WW3 system and Braider Logs

  4. Set up applicable machine(s) according to manufacturing specifications (braid ring height, install tube guide, change deck/puller gear, unload/load carriers, unload/load bobbins, etc.)

  5. Identify correct mandrel size for the core tube to help guide thorugh machine, rotate mandrel till job finishes and strip when done, resize and rework as needed

  6. Mark defects and new preforms with the correct tape color

  7. Measure and record OD and pitch on Hose Process Chart (SPC) for all deck levels

  8. Perform inspection of carriers and know how to rebuild

  9. Perform pull test on all aerospace hose

  10. Replace oil barrels when needed

  11. Set completed hose to proper staging area

  12. Maintain work area in clean and orderly fashion, follow 5s practices

  13. Know and practice all safety regulations and quality guidelines

  14. Report production issues to Direct Lead

  15. Perform work of an equal or lower classification

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment. Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.

  2. Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.

  3. Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.
  4. Other duties may be assigned at a later time.

Qualifications

Education required:

High School diploma or GED

Experience:

Production work preferred but not required

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  1. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  2. Basic knowledge and use of hand tools

  3. Sound decision making skills

  4. Good math, reading, writing skills

  5. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

  6. Strong trouble shooting skills

  7. Be able to exercise continuous mental, visual, and audio attention

  8. Ability to work well in a team environment

Skills/Competencies:

1. Basic computer skills

2. Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.

3. Vision: Near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks.

4. Requires constant alertness to surroundings and product quality with attention to detail.

5. Must be able to demonstrate ability to operate department equipment (i.e. NEB braiders, TMW and OMA braiders, etc.)

6. Must be able to read work orders and interpret manufacturing specifications.

7. Ability to use and interpret measuring instruments (i.e. calipers, micrometers, pi tape, etc.)

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

  • Report directly to Value Stream Team Leader

  • Work closely with Maintenance to resolve issues with the equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee may be subject to:

  • High noise levels from operating machines and equipment.

  • Physical hazards from operating machines

  1. Work in areas where safety equipment will be required (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection)

  2. Standing is required for extended periods of time. Walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting is performed on a regular basis

  3. Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions

  4. Requires flexible hours and short notice for overtime.
