Inova Fairfax Hospital Clinical Nutrition is looking for a dedicated Nutrition Room Technician to join the Team. This role will be full-time day-shift working Monday - Friday located in Falls Church, VA.

The Nutrition Room Technician is responsible for ordering, receiving, handling, storing, preparing and delivering human milk and formula. This includes mom's expressed milk and donor milk. Preparation techniques should adhere to all sanitary regulations and standard, and will be consistent with the 3d Edition of Infant and Pediatric Feedings: Guidelines for Preparation of Human Milk and Formula in Health Care Facilities. This role is also responsible for ensuring the environment meets facility and cleanliness standards, training and onboarding other technicians, and participating in educational opportunities.

Nutrition Room Technician Responsibilities:

  • Orders, receives, handles, stocks, stores, mixes, delivers human milk and formula per order in patient's Electronic Medical Records. Follows processes, as approved and established, for quality assurance monitors.
  • Complies with upkeep of daily records (temperature logs). Reports discrepancies in feeding orders or human milk/formula storage to manager or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of formulas and supplies; avoids need to overnight product.
  • Maintains a sanitary and safe environment by following departmental and infection prevention policies; reports unsafe conditions and accident to manager. Uses correct technique to measure solids and liquids.
  • Records refrigerator and freezer temperatures on appropriate log daily in designated pantries and work areas.
  • Removes damaged formula cans and outdated formula stock from inventory and disposes per facility guidelines.
  • Adheres to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point guidelines; maintains temperature logs of prepared feedings for quality assurance.
  • Assists in training other employees in feeding preparation and proper handling techniques as needed.
  • Actively prepares for regulatory, department and hospital inspection.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School or GED equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous clinical or nutrition experience preferred.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematics calculations, analyze numerical information, and identify discrepancies preferred.
