Human Service Professional - Gaining Ground (Full Time)

Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin & Upper Michigan (LSS) Racine, WI | Full Time, Monday-Friday, 8 AM-5 PM | Benefits Eligible

Lutheran Social Services of WI & Upper MI is seeking a Human Service Professional to join our team at Gaining Ground, a resource center dedicated to providing a safe, stigmafree environment for individuals living with mental illness and those experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to deliver traumainformed, recoveryfocused services that help individuals gain stability and become active members of the community.

If you have experience supporting individuals in crisis - including those navigating homelessness, mental health challenges, or the criminal justice system - we strongly encourage you to apply.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will provide professional human services to individuals and groups across a variety of settings, including community locations, shelters, jails, offices, and schools. Services may be delivered in person or through audio/visual platforms.

Your work may include:



  • BadgerCare/Medicaid & FoodShare enrollment
  • Assistance with Social Security, IDs, employment, and housing applications
  • Mental health coordination & recovery support
  • Life skills, coping skills, and budgeting support
  • Medication management assistance
  • Education coordination (GED, technical college)
  • Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) support


You'll collaborate with clients and service teams, maintain accurate documentation, apply evidencebased practices, and help individuals build independence and stability.

What We're Looking For

Education: Bachelor's degree in a human services-related field (examples include Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Counseling, Sociology, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, and others). Degrees not listed may require transcript review.

Requirements:



  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work in communitybased environments
  • Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
  • Comfort working with individuals experiencing crisis
  • Ability to use electronic health records and standard computer applications
