Maintenance & Technology Manager

Situation in organization

Position reports directly to the Alsip Plant Manager with direct reports including up to (3) Maintenance Technicians and (1) I/E Technician, and Production Engineer, Improvement Engineer, and Developing Engineer (when applicable). Has a direct interaction with the site Leadership Team including production, logistics, quality, and maintenance.

Pay: $106,200 - $140,700, with a possible 10% End of Year Bonus.

Job dimensions

Leads the plant Reliability and Maintenance process by gathering and analyzing data, evaluating improvement opportunities, and executing Mechanical Integrity plan, preventative, proactive, and reactive maintenance tasks. Assures plant level compliance to PSM and other regulatory inspections and maintenance. The position leads the site technical/engineering team supporting new product development scale-ups, control system management, and process improvements. The position will also have responsibilities for Arkema management systems (AIMS) program development.

Activities

Maintenance - (40%)

  • Professionally manage direct reports including providing safety performance feedback.
  • Ensure that ISO, PSM, and PM requirements are met by maintenance personnel.
  • Manage department spending within guidelines, including contractor costs.
  • Manage contractor program to ensure work performed meets requirements of plant specifications and policies.
  • Prepare reports on plant equipment reliability on a periodic basis.
  • Conduct analysis to determine failure mode and root cause of equipment failures.
  • Establish and implement quality control procedures for stock and non-stock parts supplied by OEM/others.
  • Lead in planning major shutdowns.

Mechanical Integrity - (15%)

  • Own the mechanical integrity program for the site.
  • Work with internal and external resources to plan and execute required equipment inspection activity.
  • Update and maintain information matrix for site MI status.

Engineering & Technical - (35%)

  • Lead Alsip technical team members to drive continuous improvements for capacity and quality
  • Lead cybersecurity and control system management
  • Lead technical team on new product development scale-ups and quality improvement trial batches
  • Coordinate minor capital project assignments within the technical team to support Alsip Improvement Engineer
  • Serve as ISCC+ registration contact person and facilitate ISCC+ certification
  • Process Optimization/Facility Improvements: Support the development and design of new site equipment and/or processes to improve the safe and efficient operation of the facilities. Provide early stage project evaluation including layout and cost estimates for management review.
  • Project Management: Prepare capital project scopes and objectives, leading Improvement Engineer to execute project plans while staying within project budget and the overall capital plan.
  • Plant Engineering: Provide engineering support in the design, operation, and maintenance of plant processes, equipment, and facilities. Lead MOC/PSSR meetings and participate in PHA reviews.
  • Environmental: Support and follow the requirements of the environmental management system.
  • Process Safety Management: Have a working knowledge of the standard and support the resolution of issues identified in internal and external audits and perform document review for continuous improvement of program implementation. Participate as requested in Incident Investigations.

Safety/AIMS/Training/Other - (10%)

  • Safety: Support the Arkema culture of safety and plant safety processes by actively participating in DSR, BBS, JSA, and hazard recognition programs. Support BBS process by performing observations.
  • AIMS: Lead/manage all components of AIMS Element 6 and of AIMS Element 5 and Element 4 sub elements 4.1 and 4.2 covering Risk Assessments, Change Management and Capital purchases.
  • Training: Manage the training/development of the maintenance department personnel. Develop procedures, policies and training material related to PSM, Mechanical Integrity, management of change, etc.
  • Other: Support Loss Control policy; all other duties as assigned.

  • Comply with Regulations, Legal and Internal Requirements as made known by the site and by the business unit (BU).
  • Comply with the rules of the specific location to which one is assigned as well as the rules set by the business unit (BU) and Arkema Inc.
  • Comply with all standard procedures and work instructions, aka SP, SOP, PWI, TM, to ensure productivity, quality assurance and cost effectiveness.
  • Review their work areas for potential losses and Report hazards to the direct supervisor.
  • Report Near Misses to the direct supervisor; report Incidents or Accidents to the direct supervisor. Identify and communicate potential gains or possible improvements to the management system.

Accountabilities

The Maintenance & Technology Manager leads maintenance team for effective equipment reliability, assures plant-level improvements align with Plant Specific Technology Plan, thereby closing local performance gaps and increasing Asset Capability (AC). The M&T Manager provides plant-level improvement project support, which may include fulfilling roles in the global project execution work process. The M&T Manager requires both technical knowledge and judgment to identify, analyze, and implement solutions. Must have the ability to appropriately enlist expertise through teams, support groups, and Technology Centers to enhance problem solving.

Qualifications / experience required

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering required
  • 5+ years' experience in either, or a combination of, latex production, manufacturing plant/process or project engineering environment is preferred
  • Maintenance Experience - preferred
  • Supervisory Experience - preferred
  • Experience with fired boilers or plant utilities preferred
  • Requires planning, focus on data-based decision making, objective prioritizing, the ability to work with all functions, and the drive to achieve results
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop goals and action plans to improve performance
  • Highly motivated team player able to work at a fast pace.
