Overview

The Electrical Engineering department seeks dedicated, dynamic, and innovative individuals to join its management team to support the Station Projects Bronx and Westchester section. Must recognize the importance of Commitment to Excellence and Rules We Live By, be able to provide exemplary customer service, demonstrate a high energy level, and able to handle multiple assignments with changing priorities while meeting deadlines. Strong organizational, teamwork, leadership, interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills are essential. To succeed in this position, the right candidates must be self-motivated, resourceful and articulate. These individuals will possess a "can-do" attitude, have a clear sense of accountability and understand what it takes to meet customers needs. Experience and expertise in application and development of technical principles and practices associated with Electrical Utility systems is required. Experience shall be specific to the engineering and application of Power Systems, Substations and Transmission facilities.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Evaluate project requirements to support engineering design, construction, and operational objectives.
  • Develop scopes of work, design criteria, engineering specifications, construction packages, and funding authorization requests, including economic analyses.
  • Coordinate project activities with internal stakeholders, end users, and construction teams, and provide field support as needed.
  • Monitor and report on project status, schedules, and costs to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Lead and interface with cross-functional project teams, including discipline engineers and designers, to drive project execution.
  • Identify and address outage, safety, and environmental constraints throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare or oversee procurement specifications for equipment, cables, and associated materials; review and approve vendor proposals and drawings.
  • Serve as Lead Discipline Engineer with decision-making authority for assigned projects and technical matters.
  • Collaborate with internal departments on equipment installation, testing, maintenance, and operational readiness.
  • Ensure adherence to Company environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) standards, including incorporation into designs and preparation of required EH&S documentation.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 3 years of applicable engineering work experience. Applicable experience is experience in the design, analysis or operation of power systems, high voltage substations, distribution or transmission systems.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 3 years of applicable engineering work experience. Applicable experience is experience in the design, analysis or operation of power systems, high voltage substations, distribution or transmission systems.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Experience in application and development of technical principles and practices associated with Electrical Utility systems, required.
  • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel on all levels, required.
  • Knowledgeable in basic engineering design and principles, required.
  • Experience with conceptual design, system planning and electrical analysis, preferred.
  • Experience specific to the engineering and application of Power Systems, Substations and Transmission facilities, preferred.
  • Ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects and assignments, preferred.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred
Physical Demands
  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be willing and able to work in substation / switching station areas (in an around live electrical equipment).
