Position Overview:Typical hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Occasionally works extended hours for emergencies at leadership discretion.

The Security Specialist is responsible for assisting in the coordination of a safe and secure environment for Digi-Key employees, vendors, and visitors. This role includes collaboration and execution of safety initiatives. The position's focus is the execution of security, communicating organizational objectives and expectations, monitoring the progress of security initiatives, and taking appropriate action as directed.

This is considered an essential onsite role, which requires regular onsite attendance and occasional irregular hours. Responsibilities:
  • Provide friendly and professional customer service/front desk coverage, and visitor management

  • Execute Digi-Key's security needs, including monitoring facilities, parking lots and grounds via various systems (i.e., security cameras, door access system, fire alarms, in-person rounds), processes, procedures, and programs

  • Participate in facility security matters, providing safety assistance and coordination of staff in response to emergencies, alarms, and other issues to assist with the mitigation of any potential security threats

  • Assist with periodic internal inspections of safety-related items in the Fargo facility in compliance with Local, State, and Federal standards. Examples are fire extinguisher inspection, emergency eye-wash station, first aid kits, and MRT bags

  • Participate in security investigations and create security status reports for management on incidents and breaches

  • De-escalate security breaches and confrontations

  • Participating in Safety Committee meetings

  • Assist with new employee onboarding regarding safety and security issues, badge photos and issuance, and deactivations

  • Assist Manager in training and supporting peers on the security, internal services, and safety teams

  • Assist with reasonable suspicion investigations

  • Assist Employee Relations with internal investigations and provide security presence at potential high-risk encounters as requested (i.e., employee counseling/termination sessions)

  • Manage contractor and visitor access, including issuing badges, verifying documentation, and ensuring compliance

  • Cover entrance monitoring as needed to monitor security cameras and enforce badge policy through outreach and proactive communication with employees

  • Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to possible reallocation of efforts to other organizations as per business need and management request. Examples are restocking first aid supplies and MRT bags, ESD checks, Fire extinguisher training and DK Store oversight and restocking

Minimum Essential Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1+ years of experience working in law enforcement, safety, emergency response, or security capacity

  • Experience using relevant technology and equipment (e.g., CCTV) and ability to learn to troubleshoot visitor check-in I-Pad, badge printers, etc.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Must demonstrate the following behavioral competencies: Calm under Pressure, Ethical Conduct/Credibility, Problem Solving, Integrity, Effective communication and calming presence, Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of security protocols, procedures, and the law

  • Dealing with high-risk individuals and de-escalation training

  • Experience in/or ability to learn reporting and emergency response planning

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to twist, bend and climb stairs

  • Able to reach with hands and arms above shoulder level

  • Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse, and screen

  • Regularly lift up to 35 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50lbs from floor to shoulder height

  • Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body

Compensation:

The starting base pay rate for this position is:

$20.00
