What to Expect

Tesla's Robotaxi Operations team is building the operational data layer for Tesla's autonomous fleet - a system that connects multiple upstream sources into a single source of truth for every vehicle in the fleet. You will own the data infrastructure that every operational deliverable depends on, from fleet visibility to cost-per-mile tracking to compliance across multiple launch markets.

Design Technology, which is part of Vehicle Engineering, builds the internal tools that thousands of engineers use every day. The Robotaxi operations system is purpose-built to solve the hardest operational challenges of launching an autonomous fleet at scale.

What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines that unify fleet data from multiple upstream systems into a single operational data model
  • Implement reconciliation logic to identify and close cross-system data discrepancies
  • Build monitoring infrastructure to ensure data quality, accuracy, and freshness
  • Stand up data models that support fleet visibility, cost-per-mile tracking, compliance, predictive maintenance, and asset lifecycle
  • Define and track data quality metrics
  • Partner with product and application engineering to translate operational requirements into data architecture decisions

What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of data engineering experience building production data pipelines
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with data modeling for analytical and operational use cases
  • Experience with Python and data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Airflow, dbt)
  • Experience reconciling data across multiple source systems with conflicting schemas or update cadences
  • Experience with cloud data infrastructure (Kubernetes preferred)
  • Strong fundamentals in software engineering - version control, testing, CI/CD
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with ambiguous requirements
  • Experience with fleet management, logistics, or vehicle operations data (preferred)
